Bloggitty Bloggitty Blog!

I have so many things I want to blog about but no time. So sometime tomorrow afternoon there should be a shit load of posts.

Fantastic Four

Here's the trailer to the original feautre length film made in 1994. I've actually seen this film and if you think to yourself it's a made for TV movie (which it wasn't) from the early 90's it's actually not that bad. Here's a link explaining just why this film exists.

If you have problems trying trying to watch the video here is the link.

The Invisible

4.5 G's out of 5. I really enjoyed this film. However it seems like I'm the only one online who seems to have enjoyed it this much. In many of the Sci-fi circles it is getting a low rating. My friend who I saw it with thought it was good as well so at least I'm not the only one. The key thing to make note of is the trailer has a completely different tone than what the film really is. First they make you think he is someones boyfriend and it's up to his girlfriend to help him solve his murder. This is wrong...he doesn't even have a girlfriend. Then in the trailer he talks with an old man (also a ghost) who explains that he has to solve his own murder. This scene is not even in the film and it's not like he has to solve his own murder anyway...we know who did it and so does he. One thing I loved about his "ghost world" is the way he interacts with it. Instead of walking through walls or stuff like that such as in 'Ghost' he can touch and interact with things but it's in his own little world. Like in the trailer he throws a book at a wall and it knocks down a shelf, but in reality it does nothing. If my explanation doesn't make sense you'll understand it when you see it. The film was also accompanied with an awesome soundtrack. Three songs of note were Snow Patrol's 'You're All I Have' and 'Open Your Eyes' (off their 'Eye's Open' album) and A Perfect Circle's Weak and Powerless (you may remember a version of this song on the Underworld soundtrack). When I was doing a search through Amazon and IMDB I couldn't find a soundtrack, which sucked b/c it would have been something I'd bought. Then I go to the films official site and it turns out there is a soundtrack. The track listing is at the bottom. Also while I'm talking about movie songs I missed talking about one used in Disturbia. In that film they used System of a Down's 'Lonely Day'. They are also using it recent trailers to promote the film. Plus I now have the hots for the female lead Margarita Levieva. You can add her to my list for group orgy Jenn...LOL. In conclusion, I liked it, however you may not. What I'm finding from reading online is that people thought the ending was lame but I liked it.

Soundtrack Listing: You can hear samples of the songs through the films site.
Sparta-Taking Back Control
TV On The Radio-Wolf Like Me
Snow Patrol-You're All I Have
Broken Social Scene-Stars and Sons
Mellowdrome-Fashionably Uninvited
Suicide Sports Club-2.20 Boy
Trail of the Dead-Caterwaul
Kill Hannah-Under Pressure (A remake of the Queen+David Bowie Song)
The Great Fiction-Body Urge
Syntax-Bliss
Remy Zero-Perfect Memory (I'll remember you)
Oceansize-Music For a Nurse
Death Cab For Cutie-I will follow you into the dark
30 Seconds to Mars-The Kill

Here is the music video for Sparta-Taking Back Control. It's the same as the first video they released for the song but clips from the film were spliced in. Good song and a pretty cool video with the clips mixed in. However the clips near the end of the video sort give things away that you may not want to see a head of time so here's your heads up.

Tin Man

Across from my Grandma's house in Burnaby there is a big park and over the years many film and TV productions have chosen to film there. They have shot X-men 3, Dreamcatcher, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, Beer Money, Smallville, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, and the Police Academy TV show just to name a few. Each time they do my Grandparents call to let us know. Ever since I've been able to drive to Van I've always wanted to drive down there and watch them film. To this day it hasn't happened yet. Them I get the call from the Grandparents today saying the next production will be filming Monday and Wednesday. It is for a mini series called Tin Man. Here's the plot according to IMDB:

"The miniseries is a sometimes psychedelic, often twisted and always bizarre take on The Wizard of Oz. It centers on DG, a young woman plucked from her humdrum life and thrust into The Outer Zone (the O.Z.), a fantastical realm filled with wonder, but oppressed by dark magic. DG discovers her true identity, battles evil winged monkey-bats and attempts to fulfill her destiny. Her perilous journey begins on the fabled Old Road that leads to a wizard known as the Mystic Man. Along the way, she is joined by "Glitch," an odd man missing half his brain; "Raw," a quietly powerful wolverine-like creature longing for inner courage; and "Cain," a heroic former policeman (known in the O.Z. as a "Tin Man"), who is seeking vengeance for his scarred heart. Ultimately, DG's destiny leads her to a showdown with the wicked sorceress Azkadellia, whose ties to DG are closer than anyone could have imagined. "

Sounds pretty cool. It stars Zooey Deschanel (you can also add her to my list on your silly question Jenn...Giggity), Neal McDonough, Richard Dreyfuss, Alan Cumming, and Callum Keith Rennie. The shitty part is I work Monday, but if I have Wed and Thursday off like I did this week I'm so driving down there. It would be so cool to watch a show shoot, or meet some famous people.

MORBID SURVEY

I may not be the first Jenn but now you can fill it out.

{1} Do you ever see garbage bags on the side of the highway and wonder if there are body parts inside?
Yes, and sometimes I wonder if some sick bastard has thrown away puppies. It's happened before on the news.

{2} If you ever got the chance to practice cannibalism, would you?
Yes...tastes like chicken.

{3} If forced to overdose on a drug, which one would you choose?
A speed ball just like all the famous people.

{10} out of all the above choices, which one do you like best?
shot

{11}...which is the worst way to die in your opinion?
Burned to death

{12} killed (by a person) intentionally, or by accident?

{18} what do you want done with your body when you die?
This was just recently brought up just in case things went wrong with my skydive. As for my organs, whatever I have two they can have. You never know if I may need things in the afterlife. As for my body I would like to be buried in a mausoleum, but if it's too expense just throw my body in a shallow grave in the backyard.

{19} you're forced to have your funeral at a place OTHER than a church - where would you choose?
I don't see it happening at a church anyway, I really don't care b/c I'll be dead anyway. Maybe somewhere with stadium seating.

{20} what song/s would you want played at your funeral?
Alice in Chains- Over Now or Nutshell. Or even better a sing along to "This Friendly World" like in Man on the Moon

{21} what outfit would you like to be buried in?
I'm dead set on being buried in my PJ's. No tux or suit for me, I want my body to be comfortable.

{22} who do you want to give your eulogy?
The Cheerleaders for the Los Angles Raiders saying I was the best thing in their life...kidding. Don't bother I'm not there to hear it and anyways it will just make people more sad. Anyone who wants to share a story about me feel free to.

{23} any other specifics about your funeral you'd like to share?
Yes, I want to be buried with a smile on my face. With my arms crossed like a Vampire sleeping, or maybe with me giving the world the finger. I think being buried while I'm flipping the bird would be funny. Also throw in a cell phone... you never know. Also install a camera and have a CCTV on my tombstone so you can watch me decompose.

{24} would you rather be forgotten about when you die, or remembered but hated?
forgotten

{25] would you rather die alone, or die loved but leave a heartbroken mate behind?
Alone. I'd rather have my mate go before me and leave me the heartbroken one. I don't want her to be left heartbroken.

The Nightwatchman

Released this past tuesday was Tom Morello's solo debut as The Nightwatchman. Now I'm thinking cool...Tom Morello...one of the best guitarists of all time releasing a solo album. So I open it up and pop it into the player at work. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but if you were like me thinking something along the lines of Rage Against The Machine or Audioslave you will be sorely wrong. First off the guitar is all acoustic, no bitchin inventive riffs here. All you'll here is basic and dated cords. Now onto the vocals...it's a low, mournful baritone. I'd say it's a cross between Johnny Cash and early Bob Dylan. If you head over to his website you can hear three of his songs and hear just what I mean. After 3 albums of non activist music with Audioslave he returns to his political rock he is know for. That is one thing he is good (besides playing guitar) and I'll leave it at that. So what do I ultimately think about the album. I hate to say it but...it's not very good. It isn't complete garbage but I do give it a low rating. If he wasn't already know for his awesome guitar skills then maybe I wouldn't have such a low opionion about it. If your able to forget just who he is then maybe you'll enjoy this album. If your not a fan of his past work then maybe this is something you can get into to.

Here is the video for his first single "Road I Must Travel"

Personally I think "One Man Revolution" would have made a better single.

Now for those who want to forget that this ever happened here is Rage Against the Machine with "Killing In the Name".

Fracture

Not bad...How does a 3.5 out of 5 on the G scale sound to you Jenn? ; ) I was wasn't even aware that this was a Gregory Hoblit film ahead of time. I guess this guy has a thing for the court room drama/suspense film. He's therefore obviously quite skilled in presenting both. Primal Fear is an excellent example of a court room drama and well...Frequency is just a fucking awesome suspense film. On a side note I would rank Frequency very high up on my all time list of films I love. That film your not able to keep still b/c of how awesome it is. Just thinking about makes me want to pop it in and watch again. Back to the subject at hand....Going into it I was expecting a bit of a different film based on the trailer. Well...maybe not necessarily a different film but I was starting to think that Hopkins character was going to go in a different direction. Don't ask what direction that was b/c he was obviously the killer but b/c they couldn't prove it my mind starting coming up with all these crazies ideas like maybe there was a second gunman on the grassy knoll...LOL. The film starts off great, sparking my interest right away. Then it starts to trail off in the middle and I started to loss interest, but then it picks itself back up again. The suspense was actually suspenseful. I'll admit that moments left me on the edge of my seat. This review has actually taken me a while to complie...b/c I'm thinking in depth on just how Hopkins character sets this whole thing up thing up for the word go. And as I sit here thinking I'm realizing just how much this film makes you think about it after the fact. I certainly didn't feel after seeing it I would be thinking so in depth about all the events that happened but that is exactly what has happened. The legal system is certainly one tricky bastard. I can't really keep my thoughts straight with this review so I'll just end it here before things get too confusing. But one last thing...what the hell was up with Hopkins accent. Occasionally it sounded like his character was Irish?

The Landlord

Here is the much talked about "Landlord" video with Will Ferrell. I remember seeing it like a week ago and thinking it was somewhat funny. Then a few days ago I hear on some news show there was a big controversy over it. I was like what the hell is that all about. Well some people are mad b/c the video features a little toddler swearing and acting drunk. I said to myself "are you fucking kidding me!"...people are actually mad about that. I'm really getting sick and tired of people taking offense to everything out there. No one forced you to watch the video. So what if the kid is acting drunk. Have you ever been in the presence of a toddler? They act like little drunk midgets. And who cares if she says bitch or asshole. It ain't your kid so don't worry about. I also bet the same people who are pissed about it are the ones who thought it was funny and cute in 'Meet the Fockers' when Ben Stiller teaches the kid to say asshole. Where was the controversy back them. Get a fucking life people. Stop taking offense to everything, there are more important things to worry about in life. Start living by the philosophy of "Don't Sweat the small stuff".

Skydiving…100% Pure Adrenaline!

Yesterday I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane. IT WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME!!!

I had first wanted to go skydiving back in 2002, but was unable to find anyone who was willing to join me. After that I pushed it to the back of my mind and pursued other activities. I also had wanted my first jump to be tandem.

All of that changed this year when I found out that one of the guys I work with at FS was a skydiver. When he asked me if I wanted to go up I was like hell yeah, even though I had wanted my first jump to tandem. By this point I just said fuck it…lets do this shit solo!.

My jump was an Instructor Assisted Deployment (IAD), which means the instructor helps with the deployment of my main parachute once I left the aircraft. I went through an extensive 4-5hr ground school in order to prepare for the jump. The jump it self was made from 3000Ft above the ground. I experienced a free fall for 2-5seconds and then a 3-5 minute radio assisted ride back to the ground.

The night before I was surprising calm about the whole thing. Knowing me I’m surprised I even slept. When we started the course I was so excited. I wasn’t even worried. By the end of the day my face hurt so much from just smiling and having so much fun all day. After our lunch break we started to learn of the possible scary situations that could happen (such as failure of the parachute opening and crossed and broken lines) and how to deal with them. That’s the first time I started to worry…all the what ifs. If any of that shit happened it was only up to one person to fix it….ME.

The plane was a Cessna-182. Even if I didn’t go parachuting it was still cool to go up in a Cessna. So there I was up in the plane…my instructor does a last check on all my gear…the pilot pops open the door…the wind is going nuts…I put my hand out just to experience what it was like before I put my whole body out there… The instructor yells “Get Ready!”… I take a deep breath…Then I yell out my steps as I climb out onto the part underneath the wing…Door Frame, Left hand, Right Hand, crossover, slide, slide, slide…I’m then just hanging onto the plan by my hands as my feet are flapping in the air…I look at my instructor he yells go!… I then let go... arching back as I fall into the sky...I do my count…check to see if everything has deployed…everything has … I then grab my steering toggles and enjoy the ride down.

The scariest thing was the free fall. Have you ever had those dreams where you feel like your falling and then you immediately wake up? Your leg may even kick? Well it felt exactly like that. I would have loved to see my face during this time. I can just picture this extremely morbid look. Once I was sure everything was working above me it was so amazing. I’d imagine it to be similar to parasailing but only much higher up. I even performed a spiral and I was gliding down. My landing was right near target and it even was a stand-up landing.

My Dad, brother, his fiancée and her cousin were all there to watch. My brother also video taped the whole thing for me. I hope to get a copy to show you all soon.

It even looks like I’ll be going up again in the next few weeks. This time it will be an awareness jump. I’ll be practicing getting the arch perfect plus the instructor with be giving me a hand symbol that I have to remember when I land.

I can now cross off skydiving off the list of things I want to do before I die. A big thanks goes out the Josh for taking me out their and my instructors Greg and Nick.

Vacancy

3 G's out of 5. I would say that this one is a somewhat above average thriller. If you haven't seen the trailer yet I'd say don't. It's not that it wrecks the film but it does pretty much sum up the entire beginning and middle sections. While I was watching the film I was waiting for them to get to something I haven't seen. Also the trailer makes it seen that Wilson and Beckinsale are a happily married couple, but they actually are in the process of getting a divorce and hate each other. Towards the end they almost pulled off a good finale. They try to avoid the cliche ending and you think they have pulled it off but then they come around full circle and pull off the cliche ending. Of course by not following the cliche ending they set themselves up for following a cliche ending so they were pretty much screwed no matter what. Sorry guys...everything has already been done in films. They could have a gone done one route I guess but maybe that just would have been too much of a downer ending. I applaud Frank Whaley for playing an extremely creep guy. I would say this film is probably better as a rental.

Spiderman 3 Soundtrack

I love it when two of my passions come together. In this case it's movies and music. Here's the soundtrack listing for the new Spiderman film:

Snow Patrol — “Signal Fire”
The Killers — “Move Away”
Yeah Yeah Yeahs — “Sealings”
Wolfmother — “Pleased To Meet You”
The Walkmen — “Red River”
Black Mountain — “Stay Free”
The Flaming Lips — “The Supreme Being Teaches Spider-Man How To Be In Love”
Simon Dawes — “Scared Of Myself”
Chubby Checker — “The Twist”
Rogue Wave — “Sightlines”
Coconut Records — “Summer Day”
Jet — “Falling Star”
Sounds Under Radio — “Portrait of A Summer Thief”
Wyos — “A Letter To St. Jude”
The Oohlas — “Small Parts”

Unfortunatly the only group I like is Snow Patrol. The Killers had a great first album but their second one blew in conparison. Wolfmother has some tasty riffs but somehow I picture then as being a one album wonder. Hopefully I'm wrong for their sake. Here is also the video for "Signal Fire"...it's a pretty cute video.

Layne Staley

5 years ago today the body of Layne Staley the lead singer for Alice In Chains (my favorite band) was found dead in his home in Seattle. The cause of death was an overdose of heroin and cocaine known as a speedball. He had been battling a drug addiction since the early 90's. The sadest thing about his death was that he had been dead for at least two weeks before his body was discovered. It was estimated that he had died April 5th, 2002. His long-time girlfriend (and former fiance) Demri Parrott died of untreated bacterial infection of the heart valves in October 1996. After that he became more and more reclusive. Many who were close to the singer believe this to be the point at which Staley abandoned any attempts to assuage his addiction. When you read up on the last few years of his life it's really quite sad.

Here is their unplugged performance of Nutshell, my favorite song of all time. I also think it is one of the saddest tunes.

Observation

In London they have gotten rid of the iconic Double-Decker buses as public transportation. Mainly due to the difficulty accommodating disabled passengers. However, they do still have some for tours and special routes. Then when I was in Kelowna last Thursday I noticed that they have adopted the Double-Decker buses for public transportation. What gives eh?

NIN

Remember kiddies the new Nine Inch Nails disc hits stores today. It's part one of a two-part concept album set some 15 years in the future and is a vision of that future, a cautionary tale of a world we could be living in if current world events stay on the path we are set on. The digipak version of 'Year zero' contains a thermographic laquer on the disc, which changes colour with heat, it turns from black to a beige colour and displays hidden binary code, a copyright notice and the alternate name for the album (Halo 24). Since I've already posted the video for their first single Survialism I'll post 'Burn' instead. It's one of the songs they made for the Natural Born Killers soundtrack.

Rebel Without a Cause

For those who have never seen this James Dean classic it will be playing all month on the American Movie Channel (AMC). I saw it for the first time back in 2002. After that first watch I became a huge fan of Dean. The film also became one of my favorite films of all time. If you give it a chance you may find yourself wanting to know everything about James Dean (I'm sure Jenn would back me up here :)). Here is the trailer...I'd tried to find the video for my favorite scene but it's not online, at least part of it is featured in the trailer.

BOO-YA!

At tonight's staff meeting I was honored twice with the Star of the Month and Wall of Fame. The Wall of Fame is by department and is voted on by the managers. So I will have my picture up near customer service. The funny thing is I was wearing my Mooby's shirt when they took my picture. If I knew I was getting my picture taken I don't think I would have worn this shirt. On the other hand it's pretty funny I'm wearing my Clerks 2 t-shirt. Then I'm also the Star of the Month. This goes to one person a month and is voted upon by the entire staff. :) I've also learned tonight that FS will be expanding into foreign markets, such as Europe. All I would need then is my British passport and I could be an Entertainment Coordinator overseas. The only downside is I'd have to deal in Region 2 encoding on all discs. It would still be pretty cool to work over there though.

Disturbia

This movie was Rear Window on crack, 4.5 G's out of 5. I thought that this made an excellent time at the movies. It's one of those films that had a good trailer and actually delivered. Of course if you've already seen Alfred Hitchcocks's masterpiece Rear Window then you more or less already know the outcome. However that doesn't really matter all that much b/c this is not a remake of that film... It's more of an homage.

When the film first started you think to yourself how in the hell does Shia LaBeouf's character end up in trouble with the law. Then of course it becomes clear after a few minutes, making us sympathise with his plight. The one good thing to come from this film is I'm now a lot more tolerable of Shia LaBeouf as an actor. For me he has aways been that annoying child actor of Evan Stevens. If you enjoy this one I also recommend seeing D.J. Caruso's The Salton Sea with Val Kilmer.

Set-Up

Last Friday I was hanging out with my best friend who was in town from Edmonton. We were also hanging out with a bunch of other people we know. Today I find out unbeknowst to me that once I left that night he was planting the seeds in trying to hook me up with one of his friends sister. I know nothing about this until today when I run into the friend from that night who fills me in. The friend thought I was the one wanting to date her sister and Colin was inquiring on my behalf. He was plastered that night and thought the hug to the sister when I left was more than a nice to meet you, and have a good night hug. If you really want to get technical she hugged me. I'm not the type of person to randomly hug a person after just meeting them. Then a few hours later I get a call from my buddy wanting to ask me something. Little does he know I just happened to talk with his friend early who filled me in on whats going on, therefore I knew where he was going with his question. What he wants to do is set me up on a date. Of course no matter what I said to him I have no choice in the matter. I'm really not to sure how I feel about this whole thing. I guess I really don't care either way. However my friend is a lot of talk and not much action. I don't actually see it going any further. You gotta give the man props though...he is just looking out for his homie. Even if he has to drag me kicking and screaming.

Tat

I think this fall will be the time I get my next tattoo. After I got my first tattoo I had wanted to wait until I had an idea of where my life was headed before I got another. I think I have found my niche by working in movie and music sales so now I want to go ahead and get more work done. What I'm thinking of getting is the symbol for The Crow stretched across my shoulder blades. I always wanted to have a big tattoo on my back and this one seems like the perfect fit. I'll probably get it as pictured here but there is a few things I need to consider. For instance, on the cover for the soundtrack there is no eyes in the image. So I have to decide if I want it with the eyes or not. Then I also have to decide whether or not I want to have the lettering for 'The Crow' written over top. 'Decisions, Decisions...at least I have a lot of time to think about it.

Product Placement

Here is a fairly long yet interesting video about product placement in movies. I remember doing a presentation in my grade 12 English class on product placement in film. I brought up ET and Reese's Pieces as one of the many examples. Then in the question period someone said this example was wrong and that it was Coke. I then took this person to 'school' explaining that the film they were referring to is Mac & Me (a complete rip off of ET). They used Coke while ET used Reese's pieces. People should have know not to question my movie skills. In the video they even show a clip of Mac & Me.

Super Max

If this film actually comes about it would be so sweet. Super Max is David Goyer's (Blade, Batman Begins) take on supervillian incarceration in the DC universe. It would revolve around a wrongly convicted Green Arrow being whisked away to the super max prison for out-of-control heroes and villains, where the man is forced to face a number of inmates he put there. He would then have to team up with some of the very same villains he is responsible for incarcerating in order to get out and clear his name. This all happening while everyone inside is trying to kill him. Sound pretty freakin cool to me.
Hold Up

So here is an interesting story. The other night my Dad was held up at work. Now before your mind rushes to conclusions hear me out. If you know my Dad you may know the conclusion already. My dad works night audit at the same hotel I work at. Sometime around midnight a guy came into the hotel wearing a balaclava and caring a 8-10 inch knife demanding money. My dad says "we don't have any, we run on debit and credit". This being 100% true. How many people do you think pay for $100 a night hotel rooms with cash (but of course we also have cash). He demanded again and my dad told him the same thing. The third time he demanded my dad told him to fuck off. Then the guy left. My Dad is someone who doesn't put up with shit like that. Sometimes my dad has carried a broken pool cue behind the front desk. I bet if he had it that night the robber would have been beaten senseless. He then called the cops, but they were unfortunately unable to track him down. When my Mom first told me he was held up the first thing I thought was did my dad kick the guys ass. I've seen the surveillance video of the thing and the guy got pretty close with his blade from across the front counter. The whole time my Dad was playing it cooler than cool. In conclusion my Dad is one bad ass motherfucker!
What a Bunch of Idiots!

So according to IMDB some people who bought tickets to Grindhouse were apparently unaware that the feature comprised of two separate movies -- and walked out after Planet Terror ended. How stupid can you be? It is clearly marked in all ad's "Two films for the price of one". This also helps prove one of my theories "American are Idiots"...LOL.

Don't you think it's clear from the poster it's two films?

Swamped

These last two weeks I've been so swamped. Both my jobs are cutting into 'me' time, but that's life. The next two weeks will likely be more of the same. At least I'll get to throw in a few fun things such as going to Kelowna for the David Usher concert, playing softball, and skydiving.

Doctor

Here is the video for Doctor's "What Makes You Think He's Lucky"'. I've been looking for this video for a long time, ever since I heard this band existed. For those that don't know, when 'The Watchmen' broke up Danny Greaves along with Rob Higgins of 'Change of Heart' formed 'Doctor'. They released their one and only album back in 2004. I hope Danny Greaves will come out with a new album sometime in the near future. At least we were lucky enough to hear his voice on a song he did for 'Neverending White Lights' at the end of last year.

I also just found out that 'The Weakerthans' are back in the studio to record their fourth studio album, which will be released sometime in the fall. This is going to be a great year for music!

Their new album 'Libertad' is set for release in June. This is just one of the many released I'm excited about this year.

Welcome to the Grindhouse!

Now that's what I call a fucking show! 4.5 G's out of 5. This film was exactly the uber cool show I was expecting. I would have paid to see each one of these separately. Personally I liked Tarantino's Death Proof more than I did Rodriguez' Planet Terror. I really thought going into it, it would have been the other way around. While Death Proof may not have had the non-stop action Planet Terror did, it did have the cool Tarantino dialogue that you come to expect from his films. However when the action did happen your jaw just drops on how cool it looks on screen. The film also has probably one of the most gruesome and fantastic car wrecks ever.

When it comes to zombie films I tend to be very critical. When it doesn't fit my cookie cutter shape of what a zombie film should be in my books I will end up having a lower opinion of the film. Unfortunately that is what happened with Planet Terror for me. To me a zombie is a dead body that comes back to life to eat the flesh of the living. In this film the zombie creatures are humans who have been infected with a biochemical agent that mutates them physically and as a result become cannibalistic creatures. Unlike Death Proof, Planet Terror has a few subplots that end up all coming together. I really felt like all three of the subplots were missing something. If this individual film was longer maybe I would have seen the things I felt were missing. The effects for both films were once again topnotch from the guys at KNB.

Sadly the film isn't doing to box office it should be, probably due to it's 3hr length and it's 18A rating. I actually showed up early b/c I thought the film was going to be packed. In total I think there was about 13 other people. I also found out that opening night didn't even sell out. I think I was told only 30 or 40 people went. This was by far the one film I was looking forward to. If I knew it was going to be so dead I would have saw it last night. No don't that if this film doesn't end up being huge it certainly will be when it's released on DVD. If your like me and really wanted to see it your going to have a great time... If not...then there is something wrong with you. :)

Attached to 150 copies of Grindhouse is the faux trailer for Hobo With a Shotgun. Fans could make their own faux trailer and the winner would then be added to the film. Unfortunately my theatre was not one of the 150 but you can still check out the faux trailer here.

Night Out

Tonight I got to hang out my best friend from Edmonton. He came down with his wife to visit his parents. We went out to dinner with a few of our friends in town then went out to CJ's. It is the first time I've been to a club since retiring from one last October. My opinion of clubs has gone back to a view I once had. Before working at one I basically never went clubbing. I wasn't a big drinker and I not the type of guy who would pick someone up at a club, so it's basically pointless. Then I started working at one and they became fun. My alcohol intake also increased. I was drinking before, during and after work. It certainly made for fun times being partially buzzed working. Once I retired (yes I refer to it as retiring, it just sounds cooler than quiting) I still held the opinion that night clubs were fun places to hang out. Now my opinion has gone back to the way it was. As it stands once again unless you plan on getting sloshed or picking up a women, they're not that much fun. (However, clubs can be fun; sober or not, if you want to go dancing or have a fun night out with your g/f). It also just so happens that I've gone back to rarely drinking. It's good to know I'm able to quit cold turkey. Thus the obvious correlation here

being drunk = fun at a club
sober= no fun at a club
Who would have thought eh? ...LOL

I also realized I know quite a bit of people in town. I was running into people I knew left and right. My friends were like "do you know everyone?". I even ran into someone I used to work with at the club. He is now running CJ's. I haven't seen him in over a year, and he offered me a job portering. He needs some good people to work for him. He said he could even teach me to be a bartender if I wanted. He also said if I put on a 100 pounds I could be a bouncer. It was tempting b/c I know he'd be a cool guy to work for but I'm done with all that now. It does feel good to know that I could easily get a job working in two different bars in town.

My IQ

Found this on Hella's blog and thought what the hell, I'll give it a try. It turns out I'm smarter than I thought. I really thought my score was going to be much lower. If that was the case I wasn't even going to post it. but this is a score I can be quite proud of.

Testriffic IQ test
Here is some more info I found on IQ scores:
IQ stands for intelligence quotient. Supposedly, it is a score that tells one how “bright” a person is compared to other people. The average IQ is by definition 100; scores above 100 indicate a higher than average IQ and scores below 100 indicate a lower that average IQ. Theoretically, scores can range any amount below or above 100, but in practice they do not meaningfully go much below 50 or above 150. Half of the population have IQ’s of between 90 and 110, while 25% have higher IQ’s and 25% have lower IQ’s:

Over 140 - Genius or near genius
120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence
110 - 119 - Superior intelligence
90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence
80 - 89 - Dullness
70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency
Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness

Apparently, the IQ gives a good indication of the occupational group that a person will end up in, though not of course the specific occupation:
140: Top Civil Servants; Professors and Research Scientists.
130: Physicians and Surgeons; Lawyers; Engineers (Civil and Mechanical)
120: School Teachers; Pharmacists; Accountants; Nurses; Stenographers; Managers.
110: Foremen; Clerks; Telephone Operators; Salesmen; Policemen; Electricians.
100+: Machine Operators; Shopkeepers; Butchers; Welders; Sheet Metal Workers.
100-: Warehousemen; Carpenters; Cooks and Bakers; Small Farmers; Truck and Van Drivers.
90: Laborers; Gardeners; Upholsterers; Farmhands; Miners; Factory Packers and Sorters.

Can't Standz No More!

Does anyone else find Christina Aguilera's singing voice annoying? Personally I've take all I can stand...and I can't stand no more! I've never been a fan of hers, but she was usually tolerable. Now every time I hear a song of hers I really want to smash her face in. She can hit a vocal range that most can't...okay we get it, but in every damn song she's belting that sound out. Each time I hear it I start to become enraged with anger and feel like punching her out. Plus she's killing the thirties...please stop it. Oh...and if anybody should have shaved her head it should have been her. Remember that god-awful curly fro she had a few years back? That was the most horrid look I've ever seen.

Reign Over Me

3 G's Out 5. I don't really have much to say about this one. It wasn't bad and it wasn't great, it falls somewhere in the middle. If your into watching drama's revolving around psychological disorders and grief you'll enjoy this. As a Psych major it did make for an interesting watch. It also showed why I'd never make a a good Psychologist or Counsellor. I partially got into Psych b/c I wanted to help people with there problems, but somewhere along the way I realised that not everyone can be helped. Some don't even want help. This way of thinking is really discouraging, so I figure what's the point. The film does feature an awesome cover of The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" by Pearl Jam, which just adds to some highly emotional scenes.

The Training Begins

Tomorrow I will be starting my training to become an Entertainment Coordinator. They are really desperate in Edmonton and they told my boss to send us over, but were not ready yet. She says it takes about 3months or so to learn everything. So after that who knows what might happen. It also looks very promising that I may up getting a raise.
