The Walking Dead Vol. 6

I just read that vol. 6 of my zombie apocalypse graphic novels series will be released on April 11th. I can't wait...this has been just an amazing series. I look forward to the day it is finally done so I can read the entire series from start to finish. I know that Jen from QQ is the only other person just excited as I am, but I thought it was something I had to share. Maybe I'll end up getting someone just as hooked as she did for me.
The Tripper

The first trailer for the David Arquette's directorial debut is finally online. Check it out here. This is one I'm really looking forward to. It has one of those simple story lines that makes it sound interesting...at least to me. The story revolves around a Ronald Reagan-obsessed serial killer who targets a bunch of hippies who are heading to a weekend-long concert. Plus I like the cast...Thomas Jane, Jason Mewes, Balthazar Getty and Jamie King.
Dead Silence

2.5 G's out of 5. I didn't really care for this one. I thought this would be how I felt. If it wasn't from the writers and director of the original 'Saw' I never even would have bothered with it. Scary films using have thous 'cat in the closet' scare moments. You never know when they're coming and they are meant to make you jump out of your seat. At least for the general public...nothing has made me jump out of my seat since I was a kid. In this film they warn you ever time there is going to be one of those moments. The film is called 'Dead Silence' and that's exactly what happens just before something if going to make you jump. All of a sudden things will go quite warning the character and the audience that something is about to happen. Sort of defeats the purpose of a horror film if you ask me. It did have two positive elements in my opinion. The old lady 'Mary Shaw' was pretty creepy and the surprise ending. I never even saw this ending coming, but it does make you have to reevaluate the film. If it wasn't for the ending I would be trashing it. Knowing me I'll end up buying it previously viewed for $6.99.

On a side movie note, I just found out that one of my best friends younger brother was an extra in the film 'Shooter'. In the opening segment he can be seen in the background behind Danny Glover with a headset on. I wish I knew that before I watched it so I could have looked for him.

Quote

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. " Rocky Balboa
New Videos

Here's Red Hot Chili Peppers lastest-Hump De Bump. It was directed by Chris Rock. Plus John Frusciante has shaved his head. He looked so cool with long hair. Now he looks like John circa early 90's.

Tragically Hip-Yer Not the Ocean. Their lasted album kicks ass. The first time I heard it I really didn't care for it, but I've played it so much at FS and by seeing them perform the album live I now love the whole thing.

Shooter

Today was a first for me. When I was purchasing my ticket for the film I actually got IDed. I've never been IDed before, in order to see a film. I was actually shocked when she asked if she could see some ID. It made me feel young so that was nice. I guess that will teach me to shave...LOL. Since I know the managers I told them it was nice to see their employees enforcing the ratings. I even sent off a letter of compliment to the company. However I really don't agree with them having to play the parents to minors who want to see a restricted film. I've been able to see restricted films ever since I was young and it always pissed me off when I was younger that I couldn't get into an 18A film without my parents or one of my older brothers coming along. I remember a few years back a theatre in the States had a program where minors got ID cards that aloud them with the permission of their parents to see restricted film. I always thought that was a good idea, but since I'm well over the age limit I don't really care anymore. Anyways...

I give the film 4 G's out 5. When I first saw the trailer for this one I personally thought it was going to suck. It even had a premise similar to 'Most Wanted' with Keenen Ivory Wayans and that film just blew. If it wasn't for Antonie Fuqua directing I may not have even bothered with it, but I'm glad I did. Other reasons making this a film worth watching is parts of it were filmed just outside of town, on the Universal Studio's tour we drove by the cabin which they blow up at the end and it was actually an 18A film. When action movies puss out and go the PG-13 route they tend to blow. I will say that it was a nicely packaged action film. I could use a line from Hills Have Eyes 2 to describe Mark Wahlberg's character "it's Rambo resurrected". If your looking for a violent entertaining action film this is one too see. I also found out that the book this film was based on has 2 sequels. It would be cool if they go the route of Bourne Identity and turn this one into a trilogy of films.

Skydiving

The date is set. I'll be jumping out of a perfectly good airplane on April 21st. Supposedly the date was filling up fast so my connection was collecting downpayments in order to secure our spots. He also said it's to prevent chickening out. Then I told him that if I felt like chickening out I wouldn't care about losing $50, but if I do chicken out he'll definitely not let me forget about it. However I don't foresee myself backing out. It's something I've wanted to do for years. It will be a full day of training then I get to make my jump at the end of the day. I had wanted my first jump to be tandem but I really don't care anymore. I bet it would be that much more cooler going through the training and doing it myself. Soon enough I'll have done pretty much everything I've ever wanted to do in life. I better start coming up with some more ideas.

Note to self: Watch 'Point Break' before I go.
The Hills Have Eyes 2

This one falls in between a good horror film and a piece of shit. It's a plane old entertaining horror spectacle. 3 G's Out of 5. This time around it's a group of National Guard Trainees against the Mountain Mutant Monster Miners. Hows that for alliteration? I would have figured that putting some gun toting soldiers against the mutant fuckers would make for a bitchin film. The only problem is they weren't the BMF's Ala Dog Soldiers. They were... well just...National Guard's...and trainee's at that (even though they were near the end of their training). I'm also not putting down any National Guard people out there, so don't get your panties in a bunch. This time however the Mutants were a lot more bad ass which was nice to see. The effects were once again done by the masters at KNB and whenever they work on a horror film you can at least count on seeing some sick and twisted stuff. This also makes for a nice little preempt to there work in Grindhouse (have I mentioned how much I want to see this? LOL). Even though it wont be considered one of Wes Craven's best writing jobs it was still nice to have the man back at work. Now if he could just write a bitchin prequel to Nightmare On Elm Street. Recommended for the horror fans out there.

Working Against Me

Last night my ability to wake myself up from a dream worked against me. This is actually the first time it has done that. In the past if I was having a shitty dream I could just wake myself from it. Last night I was having a great dream that I really wanted to be true. If I was dead this is what I would have wanted to be my afterlife. So to test if I was actually dreaming or not I tried waking myself up. The bad news is it was a dream :( I should have just realized that since I was smoking it should have been a dream. Than I could have lived it for a bit longer. Damn me and my brain!

Fido

It's great being Canadian. Since this is a Canadian film it came out this weekend. However it's not playing theatrically in the US until June. I was actually surprised that we got it here in town, but maybe b/c the film was shot just outside of town had something to do with that. I give it 3.5 G's out of 5. It was a pleasant little film. If it was in Black & White it would have really seemed like a B movie that came from the 50's. Billy Connolly is almost unrecognizable in the film as Fido. If it wasn't for a few grunts here and there you might not be even able to tell who he was. He certainly doesn't look like himself without any facial hair or his big hair. It did however feel a little light on the laughs but it was indeed an amusing film that made me smile through-out. It's definitely recommended for the Zombie fans out there...you know who you are :)

Premonition

Damn, this movie was confusing. 1 G out of 5. I remember when I first saw the trailer for this...it looked like it was going to be good. Unfortunately I was wrong. The biggest flaw was it's inconsistency and the way they keep jumping back and forth was just confusing. Most of the time I was just trying to keep it straight in my head...hell, Memento was easier to keep straight. Each time it was a new day they should have wrote the day of the week on the screen. I bet if they had done that they also would have realized this movie doesn't make any sense. I did however think it had a good ending, but that didn't save the two hours worth of crap before it. I think I can call this the first piece of shit I've seen this year. It was funny when I walked out the theatre one of the staff members asked me if it was any good and I just shake my head with a big no in front a a pretty big line waiting to get in. I really should have just gone to see Dead Silence. Maybe it will be the reverse of Premonition. I thought the trailer for Dead Silence made it look crappy, but since it's the 'Saw' guys maybe it will actually be good.

Moving On Up

It's only been just over 4 months since I've started working at FS and it looks like I could already be moving up. When the manager of my department went on vacation I was asked to join what they call 'Future Leaders'. If you ever wanted to move up in the company this would be a great thing to be involved in, but it doesn't guarantee advancement. I thought why not...so I joined. So far I've only been to 3 of the meeting. Then just a few day ago I had my 60 day evaluation and in this meeting my boss wanted to know if I wanted to be trained as an Entertainment Coordinator. This would mean running the Entertainment Department. Supposedly they are looking for good people, especially in Edmonton. I was like hell yeah...plus I said I could easily move anywhere b/c I don't have ties anywhere. Plus I'd be getting the training from one of the best coordinators in the company. They wanted by boss to train all the coordinators in Alberta. So it's possible that by the end of the year I could be the Entertainment Coordinator for another store in Canada. Plus I may even be getting another raise starting May 1st, so I'll cross my fingers for that. It would make it my second raise since I started working their.

On a side note they are putting together a slow pitch baseball team. I've always wanted to be part of a company that had a baseball team. I loved playing it as a kid. The only crappy part back them was all the competitiveness. If you screwed up in anyway your teammates (even though there not suppose to) would be pissed. At least the pricks that thought they were better than you. Plus back then you were playing with really a bunch of strangers. It's not like you went to school with them, or hung out with them outside of the ball field. So it will be great playing again, just for the fun of it and with a group of friends. Plus I can't wait to kick some ass. In my own mind I was pretty good for a 9th grader. The last year I played my team won the gold medal for our age group.

Hot Fuzz

Thanks to the wonderful Internet I've now seen Hot Fuzz a whole month and a half before the US release. Since it's only a limited release in the US who knows when I'd ever see a copy in town. Unfortunately it was camcorder quality and I think I was missing the first few minutes, but who cares. 4 G's out of 5. So far I've loved every thing that Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have put out. They are the new Kings in British comedy. If you loved Shaun of the Dead you'll love this and if have the means try finding a copy of their TV series 'Spaced' that was just as awesome. Next I'll be able to see Alpha Dog, at least that one is DVD quality. I'm still choked that we never played that in town.

300

4 G’s out of 5. “So there we were, a thousand against three. It was the toughest three we ever fought.” Very early this morning I got to check out the staff showing of 300 and saved myself from having to watch it in an overcrowded theatre with people I want to kill. One thing I took from my Psych degree is that I hate people as a whole, especially when they grouped together in one large mass. As individuals there fine, but in groups I want to take them all out. Anyways….300 was a pretty cool movie. I thought it was going to be uber-cool, but it wasn’t….still pretty cool though. Grindhouse will hopefully be the next movie that will reach the pinnacle of uber-coolness. Long before the movie came out I checked out the graphic novel. One thing I noticed right away about the novel was how short it was. It took hardly any time to go through it. There wasn’t a lot of dialogue and it was mostly filled with fight scenes. My first though was how were they going to make a two hour film. On the other hand I knew that most of the film would then be filled with some awesome fights scenes and it was. The best part about the fight scenes was they were all in slow motion, which gave it a distinct graphic novel feel to it. Most films with fight scenes like these play out so fast that you miss out on all the mayhem. I also liked the fact that the film was casted with semi-unknows (at least for most people). It just wouldn't have worked if every other actor was a somebody like in Sin City. This film is definitely worth checking out, you’ll have a brutal of a good time. Plus if you enjoy Gerard Butler in this film you should also check him out playing Beowulf in ‘Beowulf and Grendel’, which was one of my favourite films of last year.

Skydiving

It looks like I might actually get around to Skydiving this year. I remember wanting to do it a few years back but I couldn't find anyone else to go with. After that I didn't really feel like going anymore. That is until I got back from Europe then my interest was peaked again. One of my friends at work is a skydiver. All of his spare time is devoting to jumping out of planes or helicopters. This morning I was watching video of one of his jumps and he asked if I wanted to go. So it looks like I might be heading up with him on one of his jumps. That would be so freakin cool.
A-Ha

I have found the answer to the obesity problem in American, or at least LA. The reason why everyone is so over weight is b/c of... donuts. That's right....Donuts. On every corner in LA there is a donut shop. I'm not talking about Dunkin' Donuts or Krispy Kream either. There was literally hundreds of different 'no name' donut shops. I'm surprised the joke isn't immigrants coming over and starting up donut shops. Maybe the Americans are just too stupid to realize they have too many of them...LOL. Which leads to my next theory. Terrorists have been making us think they are going to be making another huge attack. Well the first one was just to scare us. After that they have decided to move to the states and open donut shops. The ultimate plan being to make the population all over weight, thus making them lazy and therefore they can take over things from the inside. By them they'll just be too lazy to do anything about it. Plus they're hoping they'll all die early of heart attacks. Canadians come in second for obesity b/c we have a Timmy's on ever other corner....zing!. Onto my further evidence to support my theory. In Europe their is hardly any over weight people. The reason....they hardly have any donut shops. I think the only one we saw was in Berlin. Then if they do have a donut shop they cost you an arm and a leg. We were hungry for a snack so we decided to have some donuts. In Canadian funds a single donut cost like $4 or $5. In order to curve the weight problem Americans need to adopt the same policy as Europeans...over charge them. :)

David Usher

Sweet... he's going to be playing a nightclub in Kelowna. Time for a road trip.
Zodiac

4.5 G's out of 5. It's nice having a theatre in the same complex as where I work. I got off at 4:30 and noticed that there was a 4:40 showing, so I decided what the hell. Especially since there is only one night showing b/c of it's length. I love it when the first showing of a film falls in the late afternoon. For one thing it's cheaper (that is when my friend isn't working b/c I'd just get in for free if he's their), plus most people don't go to these showings. I think there was like 8 other people, and when I got out I think I overheard that the 8pm showing was already sold out. Now onto my thoughts about the film. It was a really intriguing and engaging film. As I was watching it I felt like I was right there doing the detective work with them. It's a pretty long film and it felt long for the first half, but then I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen next and time just flew by. I thought that the ending might suck considering the case is still unsolved, but it was quite the contrary. Form the evidence presented it seems like they know exactly who the killer is. I would say that it is definitely the definitive film on the Zodiac killer and it's a highly recommended Fincher film.
