War

What is it good for...absolutely nothing. 2 G's out of 5. Thankfully this movie was less transporterish than it looked. I'm a fan of Statham but it would suck if he gets typecast. This film really dragged on. You have Statham tracking down a assassin who killed his partner, all the while the assassin is double crossing and taking out the Tirades and the Yakuza. The whole time I'm wondering why the hell they are focusing so much on Jet Li. Then after the point where you've already lost interest they make their big reveal, which started out as being cool but then they add a bunch of other crap to it. The additon to Statham's character I felt was lame. In my opinion this could have been a cool film, but failed.

Moving Out

Well not yet. I'll be 25 near the end of the year which means my parents are kicking me out. However I do doubt they would forcefully remove me from the premises. Even if they didn't want me out I would leave anyways. Even though it's like living on my own I want my own place. My parents were thinking I should move out with my buddy, since he is more or less in the same boat I am. At first I was like no b/c I didn't want a room mate, but then I thought this would actually be a good idea. I was able to survive 5 weeks in Europe with him so I figure we'd have no problems living together. When I thought moving out the first thing that came to mind was renting but after going to my brother's BBQ last night I'm thinking I should just buy. Why put money into someone else's pocket. Of course if I went this way I would definitely need a roommate since I'd probably wouldn't be able to pay the mortgage on my own. So I'm currently thinking I should buy a place then rent out a room to my bud. Another idea would be for the both of us to buy a place together. Then at some point down the line one of us could just buy the other out or we could just sell the place and split the money. I've know the guy since junior high so I have no problem trusting him. I've got quite a bit of money saved up, but for the next few months I'm going to be focused on adding to this pile so I can put down a down-payment. However things could always change...I may not even have a reason to stay in Kamloops next year. I have a feeling that for my birthday and Christmas I'll be getting a lot of stuff for a place of my own.

US Navy P-Coat

One thing I'm looking forward to when I go to Edmonton in September is picking up a US Navy P-Coat. I couple years back I found I store that sells them in West Edmonton Mall. Why do you ask I want one...Well this type of coat may have a functional purpose for the Navy but for me the reason lies with it being used in quite a few films. For instance it's the type of coat the MacManus brothers wear in The Boondock Saints. Plus in some famous James Dean pictures it looks like that style of coat. However it isn't but to me it seems like something he would have worn. (Just so you know, If your new to reading my blogs I'm a huge James Dean fan) I almost bought it the first time I saw it a few years back but for some reason didn't. Then after I buy this I may have to buy the official 'Rebel Without A Cause' jacket off the James Dean website.

Paramount To Exclusively Support HD-DVD

Ain't this some shit! Today Paramount has announced that they will no longer be putting out films on Blu-ray and will exclusively support HD-DVD. I really hope someone gets their ass fired over this decision. This is absolutely mind boggling. Blu-ray is out selling HD and major retailers have expressed a strong preference for Bu-ray. The price difference between the two players have been greatly reduced over the last few months, thus eliminating the cost advantage of HD. Now this freakin' war that should never of happened will only continue. They really are just delaying the inevitable...Blu-ray is going to win. The exclusivity start Aug 28th with Blades of Glory and will continue with Transformers and Shrek 3. Now films like Next, Face/Off, and Top Gun that were going to be released on Blu-ray are cancelled. The press release attributes the decision to "an extensive evaluation of current market offerings, which confirmed the clear benefits of HD DVD, particularly its market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs." I read reports however that it's b/c they have been paid $150 million for their support. However this HD deal does not cover Spielberg directed movies. Those will be released on both formats. On the same day as this shitty news Fox and MGM have listed 29 more films that will be released only on Blu-ray by the end of the year. I guess I better go buy up what Paramount Blu-ray films I can.

The Invasion

The fourth remake of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers novel. Fifth if you consider the Wachowski Brothers and James Teague coming on board to rewrite and shoot parts of the film b/c the studio didn't like what director Oliver Hirschbiegel delivered. Hopefully Hirschbiegel's version will someday see the light on DVD just as they did with the Exorcist prequel. I give this version 3 G's out of 5. I've only ever seen the 78' version so I can't compare it to any of the others. The 78' version is a classic Sci-fi film and unfortunately this version doesn't stand up to that remake. One great thing about the 78' version was it's apocalyptic ending. This time however they don't go that route, unless you consider going back to being human apocalyptic enough. You may or may not end up liking this one depending on if you've seen any of the other remakes, but if you're in the mood for some Sci-fi on the big screen this is your ticket.

Superbad

Holy shit, this movie is already on IMDB's top 250 at 78. Probably the best comedy of the year, at least for it's target audience. 4.5 G's out of 5. I didn't think to much of this film upon seeing the first trailer, that is until I saw the unrated trailer for the film. Then I knew that this would be absolutely priceless. I think they perfectly captured what it was like to be that age. I would say I was just as fouled mouth as these characters when I was their age. It's a film that makes me wish I could go back to that time...that is if I knew what I know now.

Too Funny

Does anybody else find it weird that CBS was playing Rambo 3 tonight? Of all the films out there why a Stallone film from 88'. You could think that b/c Rambo 4 is coming out they are airing it for that reason. However I think it may have something to do with the fact that Rambo goes to to Afghanistan. Is the view on the War that bad in the States that they have to air super solider Rambo heading over there and kicking some ass. That's what I call desperate.

Great Day

Today I had one of those really great days at work. The type of day where everything falls into place. I had fun, got lot's of stuff done, helped loads of customers, and sold a bunch of things. I finished my shift with a great sense of accomplishment and pride. The best part of my day was finding out that one of the costumers I helped today went out of her way to call up the store manager to compliment me on the service she got today. My manger took me aside to tell me the story and she had me scared at first b/c I thought someone might have been complaining about the service. Now I get to sit back and enjoy two days off...well at least from one job.

Trivia

As my parents were watching '1vs 100' tonight by brother and I noticed that one of the 100 looked familiar. It turned out to be Larry Zerner. I bet you wondering who the hell that is. Well if your a horror fan you'd know he played Shelly in Friday the 13th Part 3. His character was responsible for providing Jason with his hockey mask. The coolest part was he actually ended up winning and walked away with a quater of a million dollars. This reminded me of the time I saw Canadian actor Danny Smith on The Price is Right. He won throughout the show including the "Showcase Showdown" where he took home $31,000 US worth of prizes (including a car).

Concerts

I was just thinking today that I haven't been to a concert in some time. They even have a few big names coming to town (INXS, Styx, Sum41/Finger Eleven), but I don't really have a big interest to see them. If I had free ticket's however then it would be a different story. I'm considering going to the Sum41/Finger Eleven concert but I'm sort of really hating Sum41. I didn't mind them in the past but it's all the same shit different album. I'd like to see Finger Eleven but if they are the first act then I'd walk out once their set is done. Today I was thinking about my sweet concert month back in 05' where I saw 5 different concerts, which made me curious as to whom and where some people are playing. Velvet Revolver was suppose to be my big concert this year but my brother's wedding interferes so that one is out of the question. In my research I've found out that Satellite Party is playing in Van on Sept 23rd. I'm really thinking about going to this one. Their album is one of my favorites this year. What would make the concert even cooler is that they'd probably also perform Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros songs. Also it falls on a day I have off from FS so I wouldn't even have to worry about work interfering. Then I found out that Smashing Pumpkins are playing the following night. If I'm already down there why not go see them as well, even though everything I've seen live from them blows.

Lost Boys 2

You may or may not know that they are finally making a sequel to the classic Lost Boys. It's a direct to video sequel called Lost Boys: The Tribe about a group of surfing vampires. The two Corey's were originally not going to be involved. The cool thing I just read is that The Frog Brothers will be returning as well as Corey Hain. I've also read that Angus Sutherland - Keifer's half-brother will be playing the head vampire. I think that's cool having Keifer's half brother playing the lead Vamp. If Warner was smart they would put some more money into this and release it in theaters. Maybe the involvement of the Corey's has something to do with there reality series The Two Corey's. Here is a clip from that show discussing how they weren't involved. It's really quite sad...

Bourne Ultimatum

4.5 G's out of 5. It's an intense non stop chase film. Bourne trying to figure things out and the CIA trying to erase him. It's a great capper for the series, and very well could be the best one. I just wished I saw the first two more recently as a refresher. It's not necessary but it would've made it that much better of a watch. There's really not much more to say. If you've seen the other two it's a must to check this out. However from what I've heard if you've a fan of the books you've probably stop seeing these films after the first one. I understand they have nothing to really do with what happens in the books. One scene that was especially cool to watch was the the chase in Waterloo station in London (That's were the train from Paris arrives). It's cool seeing some place I've been up on screen.

Out of Retirement

Tonight and for one night only I came out of retirement and worked at the night club. It's almost been a year since I left the club and it's now my younger brother running things as head porter. The main dishwasher broke down and considering it's the long weekend they were sort of in a pinch. He asked me to help and even thought I'm currently working approx 50hrs a week I told him I'd help. Now if he wasn't family it may have been a different story, but I probably would have helped out even if he wasn't working there. It was only for two and a half hours but it was quite fun to be back. I certainly wouldn't take the job on full/part time again but still fun none the less. The sad thing is a year later the exact same drunk faces were there...Don't you guys have better things to do than get drunk every weekend. Plus I probably will get paid pretty sweet for working tonight. I didn't stick around long enough since I need some sleep but I'll probably see in the ball park of $100 for those two and a half hours of work. Not that I really care about the money. It was nice seeing the old staff again, but once again I'm hanging up my rag and going back into retirement.

Then a funny observation on my way home...Normally I don't get out of the bar until 4am long after the the drunks are home, but tonight I leave early. As I'm driving up the hill there is quite a few drunk people walking home. They were all quite spread out and the way they were moving made them look like they were zombies. Therefore it seemed like I was driving through a Zombie apocalypse.... It was quite amusing.

Full Time

Yeah Me!... I'm now Full Time at FS with benefits. I've never had official full time with benefits before so that's cool. Plus I'm also still part-time at the hotel. Once this tour season is over I'll have to evaluate whether or not I plan to continue doing maintenance two days a week until next season or pass the job onto my younger brother. My plan was to make this my last year their so everything is falling into place.

Meh, 2.5 G's out of 5. It was gay joke that lasted just way to long mixed with racial stereotypes, but who cares right. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. However it was worth it for Jessica Biel...Giggity! It belongs to the group of comedies Sandler did in the late 90's. The great thing is no matter what movie Biel is in they manage to get her down to her underwear...Thank-you directors. Another great moment is when Sandler knocks out a gay hater. Oh and did I mention Jessica is extremely sexy in this film...giggity!

The Simpsons Movie

It's been a while since I've done one of these. Just like the first line of the movie-You'd have to be a sucker to pay for something you can watch for free on TV. Luckily I am one of those suckers. Not really sure what I should give it on the 'G' scale so I'll just give it a 4 out of 5. All it really was was an extra long version of one of it's shows. After 18 years it's really hard to out do yourself. Unlike the South Park film you can't really through in swear words b/c that's not what The Simpsons is all about. However in retro-spect the film didn't have any musical numbers, so that's one things they probably could have added to the film. What your really getting is another great episode from The Simpsons but on the big screen. What was interesting to see was all the kids that went to see it. It's funny to think that they weren't even born when the series started.

The movie has a tie in with Burger King so here is my favorite commercial that shows Krusty Vs The King.
