Prefontaine
Yesterday I finally got my hands on my Prefontaine track suit. You may be wondering just who Prefontaine is, then again you might not but your about to find out. Steve Prefrontaine was an American Olympic long distance runner. He is considered one of the greatest American runners of all time, having inspired a running boom during the 1970s. He is known for his extremely aggressive "front-running" racing style and always believing in giving a full effort. Prefontaine know as Pre to his fans died at the age of 24 in a car accident. At one point he held the American record in every running event from the 2000 meters to the 10,000 meters. He went to the University of Oregon to run for coach Bill Bowerman, who would later co-found Blue Ribbon Sports, the precursor to the Nike shoe company. So why do I care? B/c they made two films about his life the first one called Prefontaine with Jared Leto as Pre, then Without Limits with Billy Crudup as Pre. I've never seen Prefontaine but have seen Without Limits many times over. That film just kicks ass. It's directed by Robert Towne who has wrote films such as Chinatown, Mission Impossible, and Day's of Thunder and is procuded by Tom Cruise. You may not have been around when Pre was alive but that film will turn you into a Pre fan. Back to the story of my track suit. During the start of summer my oldest brother headed down to the States and one place he stopped was Oregon. In a Nike store they had a vintage inspired Prefontaine track suit so I got him to pick it up for me. I also got him to get me a Pre t-shirt. However I thought getting the vintage track shoes was pushing it. But now I wish I got them to match. I finally got it yesterday b/c it's been at my Grandparents house and was picked up by my other brother. I think it's really cool to have, it's got a University of Oregon Track/Pre patch on left and Oregon written across the back. When I was in Toronto I found a Oregon Track shirt so I could wear that with the pants. If you have the chance I'd recomend checking out Without Limits.
