Downside

With my second oldest brothers wedding coming up I thought I would get a hair cut. This time around I thought I'd go really short. I went from long to short in February but I didn't go super short. The last time I had my hair this short was when I got my degree in 05. I like my hair both ways; short and long. The thing will having it short is that my damn parents keep calling me a clone of my oldest brother. It really gets on my damn nerves sometimes. I'm my own person damn it! Which is ever more the reason to grow it out long again that way I don't have to hear how much I look like my oldest brother.

The quote unquote hot chicks from high school haven gotten real ugly. I'll have to make sure and tell them that at my reunion if I end up going. HAHAHA evil grin. The women who never got any credit are the super hotties now. I love how that works. ;)

At World's End

3.5 G's out of 5. I would say it's pretty much on par with the first two films....No Better, no worse. Well I guess you could say it's better than the second film. It is however fairly complicated, but still entertaining. The plot is pretty incomprehensvie with all it's subplots and counter subplots. Even when your paying close attention you may still be scratching your head. You will eventually know whats going on but it just takes longer to sink in. Maybe heavily drinking rum would have helped. It probably couldn't have hurt. When the film started I thought it was going to head down the road of "The Pirates of Penzance"...lol. Did anyone actually get that joke?...Anyone...? You don't see Johnny for probably the first 30 or 40 minutes, but when you do he's something out of Fear and Loathing. "A drug person can learn to cope with things like seeing their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth. But no one should be asked to handle this trip. " Imagine what this film would have been like if Sparrow was based on Hunter instead of Keith. Now that would have been some freaky shit. Seeing Keith as daddy was really cool, even though he wasn't an over the top version of himself. It definitely puts a grin on your face. And after sitting there for nearly 3 hr (don't worry it only feels like 2hrs 15 min...lol) the trilogy is wrapped up. However they do plant the seeds to start up a new trilogy or at least a fourth film.

NOTE: When you see it...b/c you know you are, you will want to stay till the end of the credits. I stayed till the end of the first two films but I forgot to stay till the end this time around. From what I read unlike the first two films it's not a quick clip or a joke but actually part of the overall story. This can now be added to my list of film I complied with scenes at the end of credits.

Wild Hogs

I missed out on this one the first time round but it came back for another week at the downtown cinema. I'm really glad I checked this one out b/c it was really quite funny. 4 G's out 5. It's a movie that anyones parents or those in middle life would get a kick out of seeing. Even for those who can't connect with the characters you'll still find it really funny. When it comes out on DVD I'd recommend renting it.

Hannibal Rising

I watch just about every movie that comes out, but sometimes I miss out seeing ones here and there. Sometimes I have no interest in seeing one or I just didn't get to watching it in the theatre. At FS everyone knows that if they have a movie question I'm the one to talk to. A lot of the times people just ask what I thought of a film. Last week Pan's Labyrinth came out and just about everyone I work with as well as customers wanted to know what I thought out it. They wanted to know if it was worth buying or seeing. Unfortunately this is one film I missed out on seeing. Most were quite shocked that I hadn't see it. It wasn't b/c I didn't want to see it. I probably just didn't have the time when it came out. So I guess I now have to watch every major release that comes out b/c people expect to me give my opinion on the film. Thus here is a short review for Hannibal Rising that comes out next Tuesday on DVD. I wanted to see it when it played in the theatre but I missed out, so I had to download a copy. I give it 3.5 G's out 5. It was a fairly interesting watch to see how Lecter becomes who he is. It's revenge film and is about Lecter in his early twenties seeking revenge against a group of Nazi's who killed his baby sister when they were younger. If you liked more than just Silence of the Lambs your going to want to add this one to your collection.

"I Ain't Got No body"

I had to post this video from Young Frankenstien. I have such great memories tied to this scene. It is something of an inside joke between me and another person.

Yakka tak ta a yakka tak ta ha!
WHAT A RUSH!

Today I went up for my first Tandem. In town they only do tandem once a year during what they call "May Meet". It's a sky diving event where people come from all over. It's the only time they do tandem in town b/c the club has no one registered to perform tandems. I decided to do a tandem as my second jump b/c I figured it's the closest to the real thing without having to work up to that point. I figured that this will be the deciding factor if I wanted to take up skydiving as a hobby. Now that I officially love skydiving I can go through the Progressive Free fall training to where I'm able to jump out on my own, experience lots of free fall and pull my own chute.

For the tandem it cost about $260. Unlike my first jump the training only took 15 minutes. Plus I also paid for it to be filmed and photographed, which was another $125. So as I was free falling I had a guy right in front of me filming the whole thing. I don't have a copy of it yet but I got to see all the pics and video before I left. It was absolutely worth it. I would have paid twice as much for it. What they are going to do is edit the film together with some neat effects and music and mail it to me. When I get it I'll try posting it online for all to watch. The free fall this time around wasn't scary at all. I didn't get that feeling of "falling in your dreams". I think it was b/c we jumped out of the plane sideways and fell stomach down. Whereas for the first jump your falling backwards. I'm not sure how long the free fall was. It could have been a minute, but it also could have been more and even less. It did feel like we were falling for quite sometime. During the free fall we started to do some 360 spins. I wasn't expecting them so it was cool and freaky at the same time. The great thing this time around is I didn't have to worry about making sure the chute opened. It may have taken a burden off my shoulders but then again I'm trusting my life in the guys hands. The glide down was spectacular. Before I did one spiral and at a slow pace. This time around we did a bunch of spirals and did them super fast. Since it's a tandem you don't land on your feet. You actually slide on the ground with your butt. I'd compare it to doing a baseball slide. I thought we were jumping from an altitude of 10,000 feet but I found out when we landed it was actually 15,000 feet.

Things went perfectly for me. However I can't say the same for some people. On the plane load before me one the skydivers had to release their main chute and pull their reserve. It was scary at first watching the main chute fall to the earth by itself, b/c it wasn't opened all the way and I though the guy was still attached. Then I found out that the lady who was siting beside me on the plane had a bad landing. I'm not quite sure what happened but the pros come in very fast and I think she hit some sort of sign. I think I over heard that she broke a rib.

With all my days working I'm glad I managed to take a few hours off and do this. I had to work this morning and then I took an extended lunch break, jumped and them went back to work. Today was my 25th day straight. Unfortunately or fortunately I won't be breaking my record of 35 days this year. I checked out my schedule and found out that I actually get Wednesday off from both my jobs. However with my luck I'll probably get called into one of my jobs that day. This last week our Entertainment Coordinator was sick so I got to be the acting Entertainment Coordinator. It was fun and freaky all at the same time. There is still quite a few things I haven't been training how to do, so I was sort of making it up as I went along.

Little Mermaid

God Damn Vandals! In Copenhagen on Sunday morning the famous 'Little Mermaid' statue was found draped in a Muslin dress and head scarf. The statue is a tribute to Hans Christian Anderson who wrote the little mermaid amongst other fairy tales. It draws about 1 million visitors a year. I just happened to be one of them. A Japanese tour arrived when we got their so it was quite busy. It also started to rain by the time we got their and this time around I had forgot to pack my jacket. It was such a beautiful morning I didn't want to pack the extra weight. Luckily it wasn't a down pour. Can't you Muslims leave the naked statue alone? Stop forcing your religion onto others. She can't even defend herself...lol.

Satellite Party

Obviously today is music update day, b/c I have yet another one to make note of. Coming out May 29th is Satellite Party's debut album Ultra Payloaded. It is a new alternative rock band featuring Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros) on vocals. The album will feature contributions from RHCP's Flea and John Frusciante, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, and for the best part... Jim Morrison. They use one of his last vocal performances that has been previously unreleased. From the three tracks up on their myspace page it sounds like it's going to be an awesome album.

Iron Road

This is sorta old news but I've been too lazy to post about it so it may be news to some. In June part of the mini-series 'Iron Road' will be filmed in town. It stars Sam Neil and Peter O'Toole. It's about a poor Chinese girl working on the North American transcontinental railroad who falls for the son of a Yankie railroad tycoon. The casting for extras was held at the hotel where I work at. It was all very last minute. The day before the casting we get a call asking if either me or my brother would like to help the casting director. Unfortunately for me my brother is the one who picked up the phone so he accepted the role for the day as the assistant to the casting director. He was mainly responsible for taking pics of all the potential applicants. He did such a great job that he may even help out when they return to town to film. He may get to help out behind the scenes, be a stand in for one of the main roles, or probably at least have a role as an extra. That would be pretty sweet if he gets to work on the film. Since I had to go to work later in the afternoon at the hotel I also auditioned for an extra role. One of the things I'd love to do before I die is be an extra in a film.

Muse

I've only heard two of their songs which were both used in film trailers. Both songs are awesome. One was for 28 weeks later so since I saw the film today I was curious to hear some of their other songs. In the process I found out they did a music video for "Time is Running Out" which was used in 'Running Scared', so I though I'd share it with everyone else. Great song and when it was used in the film it was even better.

Battle Wounds

Yesterday was my second oldest brother's stag. So what went down...Well just like Vegas, what happens at the stag stays at the stage. At least that's what I'm going with in case Cary decides to cruise by my blog. One thing we did get up to doing was Paintball. This was only the second time I've been paint balling. The first time me and a bunch of friends rented paint ball guns and headed out to property owned by the parents of one of our friends. It was in the woods in the middle of nowhere. So this was the first time I've actually been to an official place with forts and stuff. It was really fun. The best part was when Ryan had to run the gauntlet. In a wide open field he had to run from one post to another and back again, all while being shot at by 8 guys. The total distance there and back, 120 yards. You can believe he looked like Polkaroo when he was done. During the games I did okay but not great. I did better the first time I tried it. I know from playing these war games I'm a lot better at sniping people. If it were real war I could stay still for days on end waiting for the one perfect shoot. I really wanted to finish the day with giving as many welts as I received. Getting hit is just as much fun as hitting others. I had been hit a few times but nothing that really stung. The final game wasn't one shot and your out. It was a regen, so once your hit once you go back to your base and start again. So to start off the final game I did a suicide mission. While everyone was hiding and moving slowly as they advanced I walked casually never once ducting behind anything all while rapidly firing. It was fun for a little while but then I started taking some nasty hits. That's when I decided to go back to playing it smart... Well sort of smart. I ended up going against the one friend who is a paintball pro star. As I'm hiding around an obstacle I stick my shoulder around an obstacle and he pegs me right in the shoulder, which forces me to lay down. That one hurt the most. I swear I yelled hit but he didn't hear it if I did and fires again pegging me in the ass. Isn't War a Bitch! Here's a pic of the shoulder hit. It actually looks a lot worse than it feels.

The Walking Dead 6

I finally got my hands on the 6th issue of The Walking Dead. It took me a month to finally be able to come across a copy in town. I was very tempted to just pick it up on line, but a part of me really wanted to help support our local comic book store and buy it in town. I think I go through these things faster and faster every time I read them. You can't help it, you never want to put the thing down. The good news this time around is they didn't leave on a HUGE cliff hanger, but I still can't wait for the next one. Once I finished reading it I reallized it would make for a great TV series. However if it was done it would have to be on Showtime or HBO. If it wasn't as violent as the graphic novel it just wouldn't work.

Fast Food Fuck Up

I've been having really bad luck with fast food places over the last week. The last four times I've gotten take out they have screwed things up in one way or another. I usually stop at McD's and Little Cesar's one or twice a week. I can tolerate a screw up every now and then, but come on four times in a row. First it was Little Cesar's. I order Crazy bread. They didn't have any ready at the time so I had to wait for them to make some. I think to myself it's freshly made what could go wrong. I get home and they looked a little over cooked but didn't look all that bad. Then I go to pick one up and it as hard as a rock. If I threw it at a wall I'm sure it would have shattered. Then a few days later I go back and order a peperoni hot and ready. I take it back home and what did they give me...a goddamn Hawaii. I hate fucking pineapple. Now I decide to give McD's a try. This time I decided to go with the Nuggets. I specifically ask for BBQ sauce, what to I get when I get home...sweet and sour. I would have preferred that they gave me nothing. Then a few days later I give it another try and go with the Bacon Cheeseburgers. So whats the problem...no f'ing bacon. One thing people should learn is don't mess with a man and his crazy bread, BBQ sauce and bacon... LOL!. Then today I go back to Little Cesar's and finally my bad luck streak has ended. I get what I order and it tasted good. Obviously I now have to go back to checking my food before I leave the parking lot. It must still be really hard to find good help these days...LOL!

28 Weeks Later

3 G's out of 5. An unnecessary sequel but still pretty decent. The disease broke out in Britain...it's an Island. It's not an airborne disease. Once the survivors are evacuated why go back? So that Hollywood can produce a sequel and make a quick buck. Anyways...at least it acts as a good bridge for a potential bitchin third film. The first film I saw a year before it was ever released in North America and loved it. Even though it's considered a Zombie film I personally don't think of it as one. If I did then the idea of having running Zombies would have still budged me. But I don't consider it a zombie film so having them running around is just awesome. It makes it even more frighting. The film has some really great moments that will stick with you. While they may not have been the first ones to use a Helicopter to take out 'zombies', this one definitely did the best job. I'd sit through this one again just to watch that scene again. Plus since I've been to London it was cool watching the characters roam around areas I've visited. When I was their last spring I specifically looked out for places used in the first film so I could get my picture taken their. If your a horror fan you know your going to see it.

The Ex

Here is a simple case of where someone doesn't know how to write a simple plot outline. When I heard of this new Zach Braff film coming out I was curious as what it was about. On IMDB and through Apple they say it's about a slacker (Braff) who is forced to work for his father-in-law after his pregnant wife (Peet) steps away from her high-paying job. Then I see the trailer and I though to myself who the hell wrote that plot description. It doesn't even come close. Sure that may be how the film starts but it's all about Braff having to work with Peet's ex who still has the hot's for her. Either way I don't really have an interest in seeing this one, but that doesn't mean I'll never see it.

How to Increase Your Hits

I have stumbled across a simple way to increase the traffic on my blog. All you need to do is list a whole bunch of Celebrity names. That is exactly what I did last night with the survey "Who would you bang?". When I got up this morning and checked my site meter I found my daily numbers tripled before lunch. This was due to people searching for these celebrity names. I haven't seen this much traffic to my blog in quite some time.
DVD Releases

Here are two releases that I wanted to make note of:

Coming out July 24th will be the first season of The Crow: Stairway to Heaven.
Then the rumored released date for Prison Break season 2 is August 21st.

I can't wait...I've only seen a few episodes of The Crow, but it's The Crow so I have to own it. Plus since I saw the first season for Prison Break I've been waiting to sit through the second season. It was so hard not to watch it as it aired week to week.

MPAA

The Motion Picture Association of America will now be considering a new factor when it comes to film ratings...smoking. Descriptions on sex, violence and language that accompany movie ratings now will include such phrases as "glamorized smoking" or "pervasive smoking". All I can do is just shake my head. If kids are stupid enough to start smoking b/c they saw it on screen then they deserve to die from it. Here's the full story.
Next

4 G's out of 5. Nic Cage's hair gets 1 G out of 5. Don't let the trailer fool you this one is actually pretty good. When I first saw the trailer it looked like this film was going to be really bad. Maybe it was his hair that made me think that. Even though it looked bad I still wanted to see it. Just look at the credits Cage, Biel, Moore, directed by Lee Tamahori, based on a story by Philp K Dick and writen by Jonathan Hensleigh. With all those names attached something of interest must come from it. It does have some pretty cool elements to it that you can sort of get a glimpse from the trailer. I could probably go into a lot more detail about how much I liked the film but it's past one in the morning and I'm tired. If you liked Paycheck or Minority Report and if you just don't think about his hair you may enjoy it to. Just remember the old saying 'Don't judge a book by it's cover" or as in this case don't judge a film by it's trailer.

"Eureka"

It's only been a week since they last filmed across from my Grandparents place and now another studio will be coming in to do some filming. This Sunday and Monday the TV show "Eureka" will be shooting some scenes for their second season. The show is on the Sci-Fi network and revolves around the best minds in the US who are tucked away in a remote town where they build futuristic inventions for the government's benefit. A first this time is that they are not filming in the park. They will be using the street right in front of their house. Now here's the best part...It's a car crash scene. They will be smashing up two cars in a crash that will light on fire and a tanker truck will be rolling on it's side. How freaking cool would that be and all from the comfort of my Grandparents living room, but am I able to go? Hell no... :( I would've drove down Saturday afternoon and came back Monday morning. For the first time since I started working at FS they put me on a Monday morning shift, plus I'll be busy all Saturday. The only way this can happen is if I drove down Sunday morning and came back Sunday night. If I was ever going to see a production being filmed you'd think this would be the best one to go to. However for the film 'Beer Money' they did use my grandparents property so maybe that would've been the best one. It's really not that big of a deal I guess if I miss out....again, although it would've been cool. Also who's to say they film all the best stuff on Sunday. They may do all the crashing and smashing on Monday and Sunday could be all prep. Oh well, maybe next time. With any luck next time will The Lost Boys direct to DVD sequel. That one is currently prepping in Vancouver with a schedule to film from June 11th-July 13th. At least I'll have my Grandparents to take pictures.

Jack Sparrow-ize Yourself

If you head over to the 'At Worlds End' Myspace page you'll be able to see what you look like as a pirate. What you do is send in a picture of yourself and it will then be sent back 'Piratized'. Once you get it back you can add accessories and make it talk like a pirate. I haven't gotten the pic back b/c it will take awhile but when I do I'll post it for all to laugh at. They needed a picture with you facing the camera, with your hair behind you ears and with no facial expression. I was too lazy to take a new pic of myself so the only recent pic I had that fit these qualification was a pic of me with long hair and a goatee, so it will be interesting what it will come back as.

Why Blu-ray Sucks.

From working in the entertainment industry I have discovered a simple reason why Blu-ray will lose the high definition war. Those who want to upgrade right away to HD are obviously die-hard movie fans. And what do the die hard fans love besides the best picture and sound quality?...Special Features. When 'Night of the Musum', 'Eragon', and 'Flyboys' came out on regular DVD there were two different versions (technically three if you want to be a dick about it). One was the single disc that had just the movie and maybe a commentary and some trailers. Then there were also two disc sets that were loaded with a bunch of features. When these films were simultaneously released on Blu-ray all it was were the single disc of the film. They were lacking all features of the 2 disc special editions. When HD-DVD releases a film on DVD they put out the one with all the features. They also make use of the technology and put features designed just for the HD version. I've noticed that the only time bluray puts out the best version is when the same film is released on HD the same day, for example this weeks release of Dreamgirls and The Departed. Blu-ray holds more space than HD so why the hell don't they make use of this room? Hopefully HD-DVD wins then all I have to do is buy the HD drive for my 360.

Lucky You

4 G's out of 5. Finally released this week is the poker film Lucky You. It was originally scheduled to be released last September. I even got a poster last year from my brother with a September 8th release. Then it was moved to March, then to May 4th. I was starting to wonder if they would ever release the damn thing. From the trailer it looked like it was going to be a good film and that's exactly what it was. The great thing about this film is that your sucked in with the opening scene. If that doesn't sell you on the film just walk out and save yourself two hours. I don't think I've seen a poker film I haven't liked. Even after watching enough poker films I still have no f-ing clue on how to play. However that doesn't stop you from enjoying a film about it. If you loved Rounders then you'll like this one as well. For those curious the song used in the trailer (as well as in the film) is called 'Lucky Town' by Bruce Springsteen. I think using this song in the trailer just makes the film look even more impressive.

Spider-Man 3

3.5 G's out of 5. I think that this was probably the best one yet. What ultimately won me over was the climax. (Some how that last sentence makes me laugh). Up until that point the film was just okay. Nothing great but not horrible. Seems from what I've been reading is critics aren't liking this one very much, but what do we know of critics?...They don't know shit!. With Spidey having to go up against 3 villains many people were thinking the film would be too convoluted. I didn't feel that way at all. It seemed quite fitting to have so many things happening. For those who think having so many villains is a bad idea you just have to remember what that can mean...team ups, which takes the story and action to a whole new level. I don't really have much else to say, but you know your going to end up seeing it.

The Monster Squad

If you have never seen this movie you've missed out on an awesome childhood. Coming out July 24th on dvd for the first time is the 80's classic The Monster Squad. For those of you unaware of this film it is about a group of young kids who form a club devoted to monsters, who soon get more than they bargained for when Count Dracula adjourns to Earth, accompanied by Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Gillman. The uglies are in search of a powerful amulet that will grant them power to rule the world. Our heroes - the Monster Squad are the only ones daring to stand in their way. My youngest brother has it on VHS and once we got a VHS/DVD recorder it was the first thing I transfered to disc. Now I'll have an actually copy to add to my collection. Plus it is loaded with features: two commentaries (one from Dekker and DOP Bradford May and the other from Dekker and actors Andre "Sean" Gower, Ashley "Phoebe" Bank and Ryan "Rudy" Lambert), a making of documentary called Wolf Man's Got Nards!, the Monster Mania reunion, deleted scenes, interviews and trailers.

Here's the trailer:

I guess I have a double in Kamloops or one of my split personalities has finally broken off and become a separate entity. I get a call today from my buddy in Edmonton and supposedly the other night I was out at one of our locals clubs making out with a friend of a friend of his. Now does this sound like something I'd do. These ladies must have been really plastered.

Finally!

Today it finally rained! I swear for the entire month of April the forecast kept saying that it was going to rain. Most days were cloudy and it seemed like it was going to rain, but never did. I've been looking forward to this day. I love it when it rains. The only time I hate it is the day after I wash my car. That really pisses me off...LOL.
London Calling

Just over a year ago I was walking the streets of London. I'd love to go back there again. This time however I'd love to first class instead of backpacking.

The Condemned

1.5 G’s out of 5. How could they have fucked this one up? It has one of those simple plots that can be summed up in one sentence “10 death row inmates fight on an island to the death, the last one alive is set free. It’s ‘The Running Man’ meets ‘Battle Royale’. You have a great plot, so how hard was it to deliver an entertaining film. First off this director needs to go back to film school. He has no idea how to film action scenes. Whenever there was a fight the camera was so damn shaky you’re never able to see what’s happening. Plus the action was all a cop out. On the island all inmates are equipped with a tracking device and small explosive charge. This is a smart idea, it’s the same idea they have for Battle Royale. Here’s where they went wrong…you pull the red tab and BOOM. So how do most of the people die on the island…they tussle for a bit until someone pulls the other person’s detonator or it is accidentally removed during the fight. There is so many ways a person can die and all they basically do is blow everyone up. We only get back-story on I think 4 of the 10 inmates, so we don’t care about any body on the island. It would have been interesting to know just why some of the people were on death row to begin with. When your watching it the only people we know are Austin and Jones. Austin is the “good guy” and Jones is the “bad guy”. Everyone else we don’t give two shits about. So when others are fighting no one cares. What I would have liked to have seen is semi-knowns in all the roles. Make it a surprise on who comes out on top. I don’t want to ruin things for people but the people who are putting on this ‘show’ favour Vinnie Jone’s character so they help him in trying to win. Sort of kills the movie when the game is rigged And for the final scene they throw in Nickelback’s ‘Savin’ Me’, which totally made the ending cheesy. Save your money and go out and rent ‘The Running Man’ and ‘Battle Royale’.

This poster has better fights than the film!

Winner...

Only not. So yesterday morning I get a phone call waking me up. I think it was my brother, I'm not sure b/c I didn't talk to him. Supposedly my name was announced on the radio. I guess it was my cue to call. On Fri night one of the local radio stations was hosting the premiere for 'The Invisible'. They usually do this evey opening night and have a contest for a free dinner at Kelly O' Brains. The question asked to the audience was "What summer blockbuster is released July 4th"? Right away I say to my friend Transformers. I even said it in a loud enough voice that I'm sure a few people around me heard me. The first person to go up front and give the answer got two entry forms. Two people go up...one says Spiderman 3 and the other says Shrek 3. The person who said Shrek 3 was even close enough to hear me say Transformers. No one else went up, so I felt it was my duty to go up there and give the right answer. I got my two entry forms but didn't really care if I won. I figured that if I won they would just call me at home, but I guess I had to listen for my name on the radio and call in. When I got the call from my brother I could've listened to the radio and called in but I didn't really care about a free dinner so I just went back to bed.
