Zippo Tricks

I found this video of some people doing neat things with a Zippo. I have a James Dean Zippo that my brother gave me for Christmas so thats why I found the clip interesting. I don't even smoke, but I like to flick it open and closed. I like to hear the clicking sound for some reason. That and I'm a JD fan. I wonder if this shit gets then laid. Hmmmm.....I may have to learn some of these tricks... HAHAHA. If I can teach myself to juggle I'm sure I could learn some of these.

Kevin Smith

I found another clip from An Evening With Kevin Smith part 2. This time talking about Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. One part I feel the same way about but it's with the original Dawn of the Dead and the remake.

The Pick of Destiny

So is it the coolest movie ever? No, but it was still pretty cool. 3.75 G's out of 5. Yeah that's right... I used a 3.75. It's my rating system and I can do what I want :P. It was a pretty funny movie, not Borat hilarity but still pretty damn funny. For a slight second I was worried about seeing this movie. When checking the movie listing in my local paper it came up as a 'G' rating. I was like WTF?! You can't have a good 'D' film with a G rating. Then in mid thought I remembered the soundtrack was caulk full of swears and knew that it was just a mistake. It wouldn't have been the first time. This is now my third favourite Jables film after The School of Rock and High Fidelity. I'm wondering if this movie would have been funnier if I didn't listen to the films soundtrack before seeing the film. I have been listening to the soundtrack for at least a solid week. It was funny stuff but I didn't get to add this initial hilarity to my movie watching experience. Also unlike the D's first album of stand alone songs this one works to move the story of the film forward, so in that respects it's not as great as the first album. I guess that if I add my enjoyment of the album when I first heard it to the movie I come up with a 4. Fuckaduckelicious!

Cock Story

No, it's not about mine. Although I know all my readers would love to hear some…HAHAHA. It's all about Kevin Smiths. In preparation for this Tuesday’s release of An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Even Harder I thought I'd post some video from his shows. If your unfamiliar with An Evening With Kevin Smith, I guess you would call it a comedy documentary where he interacts in Q&A sessions around various colleges. The sequel involves shows from Toronto and London. It is pretty funny stuff. I've only seen the first disc of the first DVD and that’s b/c I wanted to buy my own copy before I watched the rest. This Tuesday I'll be able to pick up both. My oldest brother was lucky enough to catch one of his show in Edmonton.

DVD Blunder

I came across some important info for those of us wanting to buy the 14 disc Ultimate Superman Collection coming out this Tuesday. According to DVDactive the Superman 3 Deluxe Edition disc is flawed. It is advertised with commentary, additional scenes and a vintage featurette, but the disc is the version released back in 01 with only the trailer. Reports say the disc is only affected in the Ultimate Collection. The deluxe version is also available in a Christopher Reeve Superman Collection and by itself and those are unaffected. Also missing is the advertised original 1978 Dolby Stereo soundtrack for Superman: The Movie. Personally I really don't care about that but it pisses me off about the features on part 3. Warner may or may issue replacement discs so those wanting an actually deluxe version of 3 will have to buy it separately. It's really not so bad if you work out the costs. The 14 disc collection is selling for 84.99 at Future Shop. If you bought everything separately in this box the price is 161.93 plus it comes with a disc you can't buy anywhere else that contain a bunch of cool shit. So it's still worth buying the box set and then picking up part 3 for 14.99. It just fucking blows that I have to do that.
Canadian Tour

Tonight I went to see Three Days Grace, Theory of a Deadman, Mobile and Idle Sons. It was one of those concerts I didn't really care if I had missed or not, but I'm glad I went. It was a pretty wicked show. Even the opening band was pretty good and I haven't really even heard anything from them. Next on stage was Mobile. They did a great job. I really love their song See Right through Me. I also think Out of my Head is a pretty cool song. The cool thing both these bands did after performing was hang out in the back signing autographs. Then we get co-headliner Theory of a Deadman. I became a big fan of this band with the song No Surprise. I think it is one of my favourite songs of the last year. I still haven't got sick of it and I love to sing along with it. It also had a pretty cool video. Before hearing that song I was sort of indifferent towards the group. They had some decent songs but nothing too huge I felt. Then the singles Santa Monica and Since You've Been gone were released and those kicked ass too. So I became a fan of theirs. Two things I thought that were cool was they played their song Invisible Man which was released on the Spiderman soundtrack and they did a cover of Stone Temple Pilots 'Sex Type Thing' (STP just so happens to be one of my fav bands of all time). Then it was Three Days Grace’s turn to wow the crowd, which they did playing all their awesome singles. I haven't heard the entire new album but they played one song off it that kicked ass so now I have to track that one down. They did two cover songs. The first was an acoustic version of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game, and the second was Filter's 'Hey Man Nice Shot'. They slid from playing 'Home' right into Filters song then back into Home. I love that about seeing bands performing live. The only thing that would have been freakin ubercool would have been to bring Theory of A Deadman on stage and have them and TDG perform a song together.

After seeing so many big arena concerts in the last few years it’s amazing the differences I’ve noticed between a small venue and a larger one. First off the security at the door was quite lacks. They asked if I had anything in my pockets then only did a quick pat down on my front jacket pockets. After the security I've been through in bigger cities I was expecting a full pat down and with metal detectors. They also didn't care about the chain on my wallet. Some of the bigger concerts I've been to have made people check them. My friend Nicole said she got a pat down by a guy and in the bigger concerts guys had to get pat downs by guys and women by women. The next thing is no matter where you sit, it is a good spot in a small venue. I was in row 37 or something on the floor for Red Hot Chili Peppers and it seemed like I was the exact same distance from the stage at this concert. I was even sitting in one of the furthest seats away from the stage. Not only was the security lacks at the door but all over. At any time I could’ve hopped over the boards to get onto the floor and I wouldn't even had to be discrete about it. Also when Three Days Grace was on someone from the crowd was able to sneak on stage and hop around for a little while before he was escorted off. While the security might not have been doing anything thing it seemed like the paramedic crews were working overtime. Half the time I was seeing then run all over the place. Someone was even put on a stretcher and that was before the headliners hit the stage.

All in all I had a sweet time.

Deja Vu

I would describe this movie as Enemy of the State on crack with freaky Donnie Darko time travel philosophy. Now if that doesn't sell you I don't know what will. It is a highly entertaining movie. I'll give it 4 G's out of 5. I also had to work right after the show got out so I think trying to make my job on time added to my heightened excitement. If your a fan of Tony Scott's work then this is one not to be missed. If you didn't like Scott's choppy, flashy, dizzying editing technique from his last two films it has been dropped this time around. I saw it with Nicole and she however didn't like it. So you have one person who loved it and one person who hated it. Oh and if your wondering, I made it to work 2 minutes late. Not enough for people to even notice.

Stranger Than Fiction

Meh. I wouldn't classify myself as a fan of this movie. 2 G's out of 5. Too bad... I was really hoping to like this one. Once you've seen the trailer you've pretty much seen the movie. Just tack on an ending to it and save yourself 2hrs. One thing that pissed me off about the movie was they show two characters for a few minutes at the beginning, middle, and end. I'm thinking through the movie what the hell do these people have to do with the story. They of course finally reveal their importance in the end. It just pissed me off that hear I am thinking what the fuck do these characters have to do with the story all the way through. They could have been easily left out until the end. I think it would have even made for a better movie if they did. The only part of the film that I did like was the relationship between Ferrell and Gyllenhaal. It's a predictable relationship. She hates him but eventually falls for him. You've seen it plenty of times in movies and this one adds nothing new, but still I like to see that kind of stuff so there. Two people even walked out of the film 20 minutes before it finished. I did like Ferrell performance however and Maggie was pretty damn hot in the film. :)

Here is the new video for Audioslave. It is my favorite song off the new album. Coming in at a close second is 'One and the Same'. Both have awesome Morello guitar solo.

Hot Fuzz

This is the new film from the guys who brought us Shaun of the Dead. It will be released Feb 16th but I'm not sure if that is only for the UK or if it is for North America. Its about a top London cop (Pegg) who is transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner (Frost). Check out the two teaser trailers here. I loved the work on Shaun but it wasn't until I saw their TV show Spaced that I knew these guys were awesome. I've seen all of the second season to Spaced but it was only in this past week I was able to get of copy of the first season that worked. At least I've have that to watch between now and the film release.
Cribs

I was checking out an episode of Cribs yesterday on MTV and Kamloops got a shout out. They were doing a tour of Darcy Tucker's house. In his 'Boys Room' in the basement he had some of his hockey jerseys up on the wall. He pointed out his Kamloops Blazers jersey where he played minor hockey and won a memorial cup with the team. I just think that it was cool that Kamloops; a somewhat small town in BC, got a mention on MTV.

Supergroups

I love it when members of some of my favorite bands unite to form other bands. Velvet Revolver, Audioslave, Temple of a Dog, Mad Season, Doctor etc. Now I can add a new one to the list: Army of Anyone. It's made up of Richard Patrick (lead singer for Filter and former guitarist for NIN) and the DeLeo brothers from Stone Temple Pilots. They just released there first album this past Tuesday. Here is the video for their first single.

Here is a bit of trivia- Did you know that Richard Patrick is the brother of actor Robert Patrick (The T-1000 in T2)
You Have Good Karma
In general, you like to do the right thing when it comes to others.Your caring personality really shines through.Sure, you have your moments of weakness - and occasionally act out. But, all in all, you're karma is good... even with those few dark spots.

One of the questions was "Have you helped a stranger in the last year or so?". I just so happened to do just that on one of my last nights working at the club. I think it's a pretty good story. While on my walk to the club from my car a young lady pulls up in her car and asks if I had a cell phone that she could borrow. She was from out of town and her cell phone had died and she didn't know her way around. I normally didn't carry my cell phone on me when I went to work but this night was different. Seeing that she was in such a state of almost having a panic attack, which I could relate to in her situation of being completely lost, I obliged. She was in town for a friends wedding. She got in touch with whom she needed and the friend on the phone said they would meet her at the Rendezvous. She had no idea where to go and I gave her directions. They were really simple directions 3 blocks down on the left hand side, but she was so panicky she asked if I would actually show her, so I did. She said she would even pay for me to show her, but I couldn't accept it. She was just so gracious that I helped here and I was just glad I was able to help.

Movie Reviews

Casino Royale: 4 G's out of 5. This Bond was rad. Daniel Craig was a kick ass Bond. I personally would've loved to see Clive Owen as Bond, but that’s just me. When I first saw Craig in Tomb Raider I thought he was horrible. Then after seeing him in Layer Cake and Munich I knew he would do a good job. It was a refreshing change to the Bond Series. More serious, real and less comical. Everyone is saying that it is a grittier, dirtier Bond and it was just that. And it's how a Bond film should be. It was also another one of those movies I got to see and say to myself "Wow, I actually got to visit some of the places that are up there on the big screen". Such as the Grand Canal and St. Mark's Square in Venice. My younger brother on the other hand who is a huge Bond fan had some complaints with the film.

Doing my Bond impression outside the MI6 building in London.

Borat: I don't know what I should give this movie. It was absolutely fucking hysterical. I even laughed so hard in one part that I cried. When a comedy can do that it must be amazing right? But I just didn't feel that way. I didn't like it as a film. I've been thinking about for a few days now and I think I know why. For me Borat works in small doses, but as an hour and 1/2 film it just doesn't do it for me. If you want a film that can make you laugh this one will do it for you. It may also completely offend you too.

More Movie Fun

A coworker pointed this one out to me, b/c she needed some help. Using office stationary, movie scenes are depicted and you have to guess the film. There is 20 in total. I was able to get 18 without any help. Of the two I didn't get one seemed really obvious after I got it and the otherone still doesn't make sense. If you want to know what they are just ask.
Fanboys

This could be a very cool film. It's about four guys from the Midwest who drive across the country to honor the wish of their dying friend: to watch "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch before the movie's worldwide release. One of them is Chris Marquette who was fucking hiliarious in The Girl Next Door. Check out the trailer.

It contains the Clerks 2 Collector's Edition, a Mooby's drink cup, a Mooby's Name Tag and a Mooby's Funployee Logo Visor. The back panel of the box with all of the games includes: a. aMAZEing fun (you guessed it, it's a maze) b. Mooby's sing-a-long c. Mooby's Mega Word Search d. Lies, Lies, Lies

Neil Patrick Harris aka Doogie Howser has come out of the closet. I guess everything from this clip was lie. It adds a whole new humor to this movie.

Why Can't We All Just Get Along.

There is a lot of hatred and hostility in the air. I'm not just talking about people I come across in my everyday life I'm including the whole world. A friend once told it's not good for the soul to hate or to hold on to that hatred. When she originally told me this I was like yeah right, but through the years I slowly started to agree with this statement. I know it's not easy for some but you should give it try. The Youngbloods had it right in their song Get Together: "Come on people now smile on your brother everybody get together try to love one another right now"

If your feeling down and out and need a pick me up here are three things that always put a smile on my face.

Where is My Mind?

My brother got to see James Blunt the other day and he told me that in the encore he performed The Pixes-Where is My Mind?. You may not recognize the the name but for anybody who has seen Fight Club they have heard the song. It is the song they play at the end when they start to blow up the buildings. It is one of my most favorite soundtrack songs of all time. It was also used in the films trailer, which made it bad ass. Click here for a refresher. I wish I was there to see and hear it, but I just so happen to have found a video of Blunt performing the song so here it is. For those interested here is The Pixes-performing the song live.

The opening act was Starsailor which would have been cool to see as well. They also have a cool movie connection song I thought I would mention. The song is Tie Up My Hands and was used in the trailer for The 25th Hour. Interestingly both films just happen to star Edward Norton. Here is the Starsailor performing the song live and the trailer where you can hear it used. The other song in the trailer which was also in the film that I love is Cavern by Liquid Liquid. The song samples the beat from Grandmaster Flash's White Lines.
Classical Music Tribute

Here is a clip of Tenacious D in 'The Pick of Destiny' doing a tribute to classical music. Then you view the same song in an animated music video.

Can't Sleep

My brain just won't shut down. I hate it when that happens, so I thought I would cruise the net for a little while. Then I remembered the video for Chris Cornell's Casino Royale song premeire Monday and I forgot to post it. Here is a link where you can view the video. I think it's a really great song, but my favorite Bond song of all time is A View to a Kill by Duran Duran. Cornell's is now number 2.
