My Boring Life
I have a lot of boring stuff to say that only I will probably find interesting so that is your warning before reading.
Once again I took a trip and spent way too much money. Then I end up feeling guilty for spending too much. Although I did show some restraint even though it may not look like it. For instance I only bought one RHCP concert tee for myself. I saw them my first night in town. The funny thing was that it was a sold out show but the seats to my right and left were both unoccupied. At least I had plenty of space around me. I wonder if people thought I paid for those two seats just so I’d have no one next to me.
The weather in Kamloops the week before I left and while I was E town was pretty ugly. Grey skies, cold, and windy. It was really quite depressing. I do however love this time of year. I’m glad to be back in town. Today we had great fall weather getting up into the mid 20’s.
While in town I saw 3 films. The first film was a repeat of sorts. At West Ed Superman Returns in IMAX 3D was in it’s final week. There were a lot of films I needed to see but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out a feature in IMAX 3D. I’ve seen IMAX and 3D films before but never a studio film, only documentaries. Who knows when I’d get another chance? The whole movie wasn’t in 3D only 4 parts adding up to about 20 mins. Those 20 minutes certainly kicked butt. I’m glad I chose to see it. I also remembered when I first reviewed the film I said I need to see it again to decide if I really liked it. Well now that I have I still figure it was average. My last night in town I saw a double feature of The Protector and Black Dahlia. Tony Jaa’s film was only good for the fight scenes. If you want to watch a mindlessly entertaining martial arts film it will be right up your alley. Personally Ong-Bak is a better film only b/c I think it has a better story. Jackie Chan having a cameo was pretty cool, sort of like a handing off of the torch. In between films I was poster hunting. I haven’t got any new posters for over a year, so it was a long time coming. In total I walked out the 72 new posters, however some of them are duplicates. The ones I was glad to walk away with are a Beowulf and Grendal, the teaser and official for Nightwatch, and a teaser for V, which my brother tells me that in some circles is selling for $70. This time around I was also able to drive my Land of the Dead bus shelter poster home. Last time I couldn’t fit it in the car b/c I bought too much stuff and I also had 2 other people in the car. Then I saw Black Dahlia, which I enjoyed. It seemed almost quite different from the trailer. It was almost like the Dahlia case wasn’t even a big part of the film yet in the end it was all a long. It sort of had a De Palma MI confusion when it came to explaining what happened. All you need to do is pay more attention when they spell things out.
I also ended up buying more t-shirts. I certainly don’t need anymore. I have a shirt to last me everyday for a few months. I’m a t-shirt and jeans sort of guy so that explains it. That and I like to buy shirts that are movie or music related. This time I ended up with 2 ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ and 2 ‘Rocky’ shirts, as well as a Chili Peppers shirt. My brother bought me the Fast Times shirts at an Urban Outfitters. This is one of those really expensive stores where a vintage looking Rolling Stones tee can go for 50 bucks. That’s exactly how much the Fast Times shirts were originally. Although my bro got then for only 10. The sad thing is I probably would have paid the 50 bucks. My two Rocky shirts come in at a normal price range. I was impressed that not only did they have the Sly shirts but Ivan Drago and Clubber Lang. So I picked up Rocko’s opponents since I already had a Sly themed one. If I didn’t stick too a select couple of clothing stores I would go mad with all the possible choices.
Before I left for Europe I posted how I’ve hadn’t had too much luck with watches recently. I had one watch that lasted 12 years them after that I’ve had a different one every 6 months to a year. I thought this last watch was finally going to be a keeper. I bought it for Europe and it lasted through that. Then a month ago the most important button fell off. However maybe it meant to break this time around. In my search for a new watch I found my dream watchband that I’ve been searching for, for like the last 6 years. It’s a vintage looking brown leather cuff. They were selling the band by itself, so I still don’t have a new watch but at least I finally have the type of watchband I’ve been looking for. I love wearing right now, it has that really great new leather smell to it.
This trip has also made me more of a collector of action figures. My youngest brother is a huge collector. You can see part of his collection in an earlier post I made. The number one item to pick up in E town for myself was the plaid zombie from ‘Dawn’. Also released in Neca’s Cult Classic series 4 was Shaun from Shaun of the Dead. The bro didn’t want it so I felt the need to pick it up for myself. I also found the 12” talking Frank the Bunny from Donnie Darko for cheap so that’s now part of my collection as well.
Then of course there is all the DVD’s I bought. I only had a small list and ended up buying more than I had planned on. I bought 24 new films. You can see the new titles on my DVD page. I’ve also made it past the 1000 DVD marker. Now if some people read to deep into it, it may seem like I’m trying to fill some void in my life and no matter how many I buy it will not fill the gap. Well maybe that’s true to some extent, but at least I’m left with a kickass library of films.J
Stores are also getting ready for Halloween. I love this holiday. Not for the connection to trick or treating although it certainly was as a kid, but it’s ties to my favourite film genre. There is one store in particular that offers cool Halloween stuff: Spencer Gifts. Kamloops however is lacking this store and the closest one in 2 hours away in Kelowna. I also just happen to be a member of their rewards program b/c I’m always buying stuff when I go to one. For many years I’ve wanted to go to one in the fall to check out their cool Halloween stuff. Then last year that dream came true. They had so much cool shit. That’s where I picked up my Dawn of the Dead poster. This time around I bought a sweet Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees mask. Every year I’ve been on the look out for an awesome Freddy Krueger mask, but all the ones I’ve seen suck. I’ve only ever seen one cool one but it was like $70 and I was only 14 or something like that so I didn’t have that kind of money. I do however have an awesome authentic glove my brother bought in the mid 80’s. Then the store also has sweet women’s costumes. Have you guessed where my next thought is going. Buy your g/f a sexy Vampire, Wonder Women, Supergirl or how about Rainbow Brite costume. Play a little themed dress. Giggitty!
All in all it was a very good trip. I got to spend time with my brother and his fiancée as well as their dog Darko. I’m so getting pet in the next couple of years. I also got to see my best friend and his wife. Every year for the last 3 years they have moved into a new place. This year they finally bought a place so hopefully it will be the final year me having to find where they live.
Now it’s time to enter reality and start living towards a real life. I have a degree, an excellent resume of work with references, no attachments, no debt, a small amount saved up, my own car and I’ve quit my one dead end job. My assault on the world begins now. Power Garrett. Watch out, here I come.

I liked Season of the Witch as a stand alone film, if they had only dropped the Halloween 3 from the title I think more people would have liked it.
I have the posters for all three films and yes Vin is on the first one.

Yeah I guess season of the witch would have been good just as that.... but you go into it with the Halloween title and expect different.... though I was warned it had nothing to do with Myers!! LOL
*YUMMY* for Vin!!!
