My Pet Monster
Does anybody else remember this little ditty from the 80's. Here is a refresher. The show revolved around Max who got hold of a Pet Monster doll with magical handcuffs. When the cuffs come off, the monster came to life and talked and stuff. Max likes to keep his new friend secret, and the main plot of the show was keeping the monster from being taken away. A stuffed My Pet Monster was released to coincided with the release. I was one of those luckily kids to get my hands on one. I remember that I bought one when I was with my family down in Florida visiting Disney World, so I would have been in grade one. I remember saving and doing whatever I could do to earn money to get one. The fun part was the orange handcuffs that came with it. They were break away cuffs that you could wear yourself. I still have the thing today and it is still is pretty good condition.
Now for the main reason for bringing this up. Back it the very late 80's I had rented a video cartoon of Madballs (another cartoon from the 80's. Anyone remember those?). A trailer in front of this video was for a live action My Pet Monster movie. Back them I wanted to see it so badly but was never able to find it. Jump ahead to the age of widespread internet use. One of the first things I did when I got the internet was try to look up this film. I came up with nothing, not even IMDB had anything on it. All I could find was stuff about the cartoon and stuffed toy. I've been able to find everything online except any mention of this film. I think I have looked just about ever year for something about it. I was starting to think that maybe I had dreamed seeing the trailer but two of my brothers remember seeing it. I was even tempted to find the Madballs tape (which I remember being red) just to prove to myself one existed. All that has finally changed. Someone has finally posted an article with a full description of the film, stills and even a few video clips. IMDB also has finally has posted it. My search has finally come to an end. Also in my search I came across a cool site called Retro Junk that lists TV shows, Movies, and TV commercials from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. It brings back so many memories. They even list what I thought were rare such as Camp Candy, Tigersharks, and Karate Kat. Kids growing up in the 80's had so many awesome shows to watch. I think I watched just about every cartoon that came out back then.
Also on the site I they mention the TV drama Werewolf. I think it was always my bed time when it was on. I do remember the opening and there always being a pentagram in the guys hand. The show was about a college student who was bitten by his roommate and thus had to find the source of the bloodline and sever it. All this while being chased by a Bounty Hunter. As he crossed country he met up with other wolfs and various situations. I remember the show had really scary effects. They made 29 episodes. I think this makes such a great plot. I'd love to see this remade today for TV or film. There is a really neat unofficial site for the show here, with a bunch of clips.
