Direct to Video

Another set of movies that I've been getting caught up on are ones that went straight to video, did not pass go and did not collect $200. Usually straight to video suck and thats the point or they would have gone to theatres and made some money. Of course there are some exceptions to the rule. I can't think of them right now but I guess that would make a good post. It is cool having straight to video sometimes b/c them I get to see sequels to films that did go to theatres. Such as...

Hollow Man 2
Wasn't amazed with the first one but it had a cool premise and it was directed by Paul Verhoeven. This time it stars Christian Slater and Peter Facinelli. Probably the only reason I even felt like seeing this was b/c of Slater. When will you star in something good again? You did have Mindhunter but you were hardly in it. The premise with the sequel is a cop (Facinelli) and biologist are on the run from the invisible rogue assassin (Slater). The film is basically what you would expect form a direct to video film. It could have been worse I guess. If you enjoyed the first one you may find this one appealing. If your interesting in how the 2 films are connected they mention the first film in about a sentence then say the project was started up again a few years later, in order to work out the bugs.

Road House 2
Did we really need a sequel? No, but it's still cool to have one. I think the original is probably the favorite film of any bouncer in the world. This one stars Johnathon Schaech, Jake Busey and Will Patton. Personally I thought Scheach was a pretty good choice to star. I thought he was a pretty bad ass vampire in The Forsaken so I thought he could pull it off. The story is that Schaech's character a DEA agent goes back home to investigate the near murder of his uncle and bar owner (Patton). This one is actually fairly connected with the original. Schaech's character is actually the son of Dalton (Patrick Swayze's character from the original) who was murdered. It's not actually bad but then I haven't seen the last eight minutes either. The copy I got was missing it so I have to find one with it intact. Or just buy the probable two pack with the Deluxe edition of the original that comes out next week. If your not a fan of the original you will probably not want to waste your time. It was however better than most direct to video releases.

Edison
Or for the DVD release it is being called Edison Force. Stupid title if you ask me. This was Justin Timberlake's first film and it also stared Morgan Freeman, LL Cool J, and Kevin Spacey. It was suppose to be released in theatres last year but I guess people thought it really sucked so it never did. It was playing in the theatres in Paris and was going to go if I had time, but we went to X3 instead. JT is a reportor trying to shed light on a corrupt policeforce. JT actually wasn't that bad of an actor but he was completely wrong for this picture. Once again it wasn't crap and wasn't great, it falls somewhere in the middle.

In conclusion all three could be skipped and your life will not be empty b/c of it. If you actually are interested in any of them then I'm sure you'll find something you'd like about them.
