Southland Tales

Hopefully coming out this fall is the new film written and directed by Richard Kelly the man who brought us the bitchin film Donnie Darko. "Southland Tales is an ensemble piece set in the futuristic landscape of Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster. Boxer Santaros is an action star who's stricken with amnesia. His life intertwines with Krysta Now, an adult film star developing her own reality television project, and David Clark, a Hermosa Beach police officer who holds the key to a vast conspiracy." The three hour cut of the film was shown at Cannes this past May. Unfortunately the critics hated it, but as I have learned critic don't know shit. Sony has bought the rights to the film and hopefully will be releasing it before the end of the year. However they are likely to edit the running time. If it wasn't for Kelly I not to sure I'd be interested in the film.

Now I just came across the news that Kelly has wrote 3 prequel graphic novels. The first two have already been released and the third is set for a July 25th release. Now I'm really intrigue to enter the world of Southland. If I come across the first one in town I plan to pick it up.

Oooh great find. I loved Donnie Darko, and was looking forward to this movie, but didn't know there were graphic novels too. I added them to my wishlist, and if no one gets them for my birthday, I have them all ready to be shipped. :)

From what I understand Southland is 6 parts or chapters. The first three parts are the novels and the last three parts are the movie.
