The Lake House

I went to see The Lake House tonight. All I can saw is that it is really good. I give it a 4 out of 5. Hell, I'll give it a 4.5 out of 5. It's like a romantic version of Frequency, which just so happens to be one of my favorite movies. Funny how I don't have that film listed in my fav films section on my profile. Lake House is sort of predictable but who cares. I assume it's a tear jerker b/c of all the sniffles I heard in the theatre, that or a lot of coke heads went to see the film. Whenever I see a film that would make someone cry I fell like I should be feeling something but I usually never do. Unless I completely open myself to feeling that way. I think I've learned to just shut those feelings out, which is a little sad when you think about it.

A funny thing is that I went to see this Monday but they were unable to get the film started (due to some new person), so I got a free pass. That night I ran into some women I knew from the night club that just so happen to be going to the film as well. When they found out I was going to The Lake House, I got this shocked looked, like really your going to see a chick flick and your not being dragged by some women. I said that I watch all types of films. I enjoy a good chick flick as much as a gory horror film. Its a shame that most men don't go to films such as this one without being dragged. Hell, maybe they will pick up a few pointers on becoming a better man and that way I could stop being clumped into a group of a bunch of assholes. I hear it almost every night at the club 'Men are a bunch of assholes". I agree but there are still a few good ones. Then when I saw it tonight I ran into the same group tying to see it again, which I thought was pretty funny.

Also playing a small role in the film is Jane Austin's novel Persuasion. When I was at the British Library I just so happen to be able to see the original manuscript for this novel which consisted of two cancelled chapters. I even bought a postcard that featured the autographed manuscript written when Jane was 15. The Library also had her writing desk on which she created many of her most memorable characters, which was believed to have been bought by her father in 1794 as a birthday present. I didn't know what this novel was about until I saw the film, but since I really liked Pride and Prejudice I'm considering reading this novel, or at least watching the BBC film. I should also watch the other Jane Austin film adaptations.
