Phone Calls
The phone in my house was ringing almost all day so I thought I would blog about how I really hate answering the phone especially when I don't know who it is ahead of time. My philosophy is whoever is the oldest in the house has to get the phone. Unfortunately that means I have to actually get it sometimes. The first thing that pisses me off is the phone always seems to ring when I'm trying to sleep. Thus waking me up. I have come to the point that if no one else in the house is going to get it then neither am I. I also now turn the ringer off my phone until I get up. I figure if the call is important they will leave a message or call back. I tell anyone that if they know I'm home (or at least think I am) then call back right away b/c that's when I will pick up the phone.
One thing I really hate about the phone is the damn solicitors trying to sell me stuff. I don't have called ID on the land line so I have no idea if it is one of them or friend or family. I have come to learn that when I say hello into the phone and no one says hello right away or I may even hear a small click indicating that I'm being connected then I will just hang up. Although sometimes I do fell guilty about doing it so I may end up *69 them just to make sure the number was something I don't recognize. I also figure that if the call is actually legit then they will just call back anyways. I do have call display on my cell so I only answer that if I know the call. Someday I'll get it on my land line then I won't ever have to talk to a solicitor again.

I think the reason I hate answering the phone has something to do with the fact I hate dealing with people over the phone especially when I don't know them. I'd much rather talk to them face to face. Even then I hate dealing with people I don't know but it just seems more personal. Although I do love talking with friends sometimes on the phone. I can be very entertaining. One time a friend had some time to kill so he just called me and listened to me go on about some crazy shit.

I'm terrible for missing phone calls. You think with an apartment as small as mine, three rings should be plenty of time to find the phone and answer it.
It's not.
And my cell is good but only when I physically have it on me - if it's in my purse or somewhere in the house, there's a good chance I might not hear it either. Terrible huh? But like you said - if it's important, they'll call back, and maybe even leave a message.
Sometimes it's nicer to just NOT answer it anyways. :)
