Narnia and Religion

I bought myself the 2 disc of Narnia today. Future shop had a promotion of "guaranteed low price" which I have come to learn is usually bullshit b/c I found it cheaper at Walmart. I also usually try to boycott Future shop b/c they piss me off to many times. It would make sense for me to get a job there and try to fix what I hate about them, but I don't want to waste my time.
Any way back to the matter at hand. I never read any of the books but I was aware of the series as a kid. I do remember seeing parts of the BBC show on TV when I was young. Personally it looked lame. It had what I called a British look ( grey and grainy, low quality look) that wasn't to appealing as a kid. Before seeing it in theaters, I remember that the film was being promoted to Christens, b/c the story parrels things in the bible. I didn't know this and I was like NOOOOOOOOO. Even though they didn't want to promote it as a christen film, once I knew there was a connection; being non religious, it made me almost not want to see it. I felt like it would sort of try to preach or in some way try to make it seem like it is the one and only religion to follow. Which is exactly what I hate about religion. Even when watching the film I was on the look out to see if I could actually pick anything out. But I'm not to knowledgeable on things in the bible, so really the only thing I remember noticing was the resurrection of Aslan. Luckily, having ties to the bible didn't really effect my enjoying of the film. Interestingly I found out that CS Lewis was a converted atheist, but I don't even see me converting from my agnostic beliefs.
On a side note I really fucking hate when I'm in the middle of writing a big blog entry and my god damn browser crashes. Then I have to remember what the hell I have written and rewrite the damn thing, but when you do it doesn't turn out as great as the first time you wrote it. I mention it this time b/c it is exactly what had happen to me here. Fuck it pisses me off.

I liked Narnia, but then I liked the grainy BBC version as well, even though my sister gave me a hard time about it and would always try to change the channel.
I even studied two of the Narnia books in college in my Christianity/Mythology class and I loved it. If you know your ancient greek/roman myths there's a lot of parallels there too, so it's not all just Christian stuff.
So Barnze - don't be put off - it's not too preachy and it's pretty good for a kid's show. (If ur into those, or have kids of your own). I loved the battle too. :)

I only remember sometimes to save it as a draft first.
Damn, there was a Mythology class offered at the college. That would have been a cool course.

It was - actually there were a couple that would have looked at mythlogy. But I did Biblical and Classical literature (that's what the name of it was) with Dr. Nicholson and had a blast. A lot of ppl didn't like him b/c he has an odd way of doing things, but I love how his approach is to just read read read instead of read a little and study those two or three books extensively. I'd rather be exposed to more and be able to compare what works and what doesn't.
I think there was another course that *just* looked at mythlogy and I think that would have been cool too (look beyond the greeks/romans) but I didn't make it to that one. Instead I just went out to Amazon.ca and bought Mythlogy for Dummies. :)

The coolest courses I got to take were Rock 'n' Roll Philosophy, Cyberphilosophy, and really all the other philosophy courses I took.

That's cool. I didn't take *any* philosophy and I really regret it. I almost did but when I found out the only available course was at 8am, (and I bussed to UCC from the north shore) I decided that trying to think that early in the morning would just result in a) as many skipped classes as I could get without being thrown out, and b) a lower grade than I'm used to.

I only ever had early classes in my first year and boy did that suck. I always wanted to skip but I never did. I usually need 1o hours of sleep to function during the day, but I hate going to sleep early.
