I Am Legend

Yes!!! Finally it is happening. The bad ass novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson is going to be heading to the big screen (again that is). It has previously been the bases for Vincent Price's "The Last Man on Earth' and Charlton Heston's 'The Omega Man" which have been blasted for not being great adaptations. I did like The Omega Man even if if wasn't really true to the book and I've yet to see VP's version so I don't know how that one is. The film is going to be directed by Francis Lawrence who did Constantine and will star Will Smith as Robert Neville and will be set for a 2007 release. For those who don't know anything about this book then shame on you. Hehe :) The book has insiped and influence so many things throught the years. One great thing about the book is that it can be described in one or two sentences and make it sound so awesome. Here goes my summary, Robert Neville is the lone survivor of an apocalypse that has turned most of the human race into vampires. During the night he hides from the creatures in a fortified mansion, and during the day he goes and hunts them down.
The first time I heard about the book was in the mid 90's when the first talks about bringing the book to film started and it has been in development hell ever since. Back then it would have been directed by Ridley Scott and star Arnold Schwarzenegger. But due to an ever increasing budget it never happened. Then in the 2002 it was going to be directed by Michael Bay and star Smith, but once again it didn't advance. Another actor I heard was up for the role at one point was Kurt Russell. I don't really see Will Smith as Robert Neville and would prefer someone else but he may end up doing a great job. I think it would have been really awesome to see a Ridley Scott version but unfortunately that will never be.
I remember in a high school English class we got to do presentations on anything we wanted and I did mine of this book. My purpose was to expose as many people to this book as I could. I remember my teacher commenting that I had everyone on the edge of their seats as I described the plot. I even showed a clip from The Omega Man. It was where CH's is out during the day and realizes that his watch had died and it was almost sunset and he has to race back to his mansion.

That sounds really cool. I've read Seven Steps to Midnight and I really enjoyed it, but never knew anything about the author. I saw the adapations for Stir of Echoes and What Dreams May Come without even realising they were based on his novels. I might have to run to the library! Hehe.

If you did feel like straying from all the other books on your shelf then this book is a somewhat short read, running under 200 pages. If your a fast reader you could probably get through it fairly fast. Or just save time and watch the Omega Man, it will give you the basic gist.

Well maybe I'll wait for the new movie to come out (whenever that is) but only b/c I've got a million things to read about right now. It'd probably be easier if I'd just *stop* buying the damn things adn give myself a chance to catch up, but I gotta have a wide selection b/c I have to be in a certain mood for certain books.

Certian mood for certain book, eh. I've never thought like that when it comes to books. I just read whatever book I can get my hands on next. But I'm that way when it comes to films, I have a wide selection and have to be in a certain mood for a certain movie. Or if I want to put myself into a certain mood I'll watch a certain movie.

Well a lot of the books I read range in topic quite a bit, so I have to decide if I want to read something fiction and learn something, or if I want to read horror, chic lit, historical fiction, fantasy etc. I usually vary between silly/serious stuff so I dont' get sick of any one thing.
But I'm the same way for movies too.
You probably understand what I mean when I say sometimes I just get a craving for a certain movie and then I'm not happy until I finally get to sit down and watch it. :)

Absolutely :) Sometimes even I may have a craving for a certain type of film but then get sick of it fast and end up watching only 30 -40 minutes.
